Post Which Steering Wheel do you have in your P-Car?

I am wondering in changing again my steering wheel, my car is a 964 C4 90 (no airbag) I donīt really like the feeling of the original steering wheel so I recently purchased a used one from a 92 model but the first problem is that it came with airbag.

The second problem was that the leather was quite used in the upper part, so I bought another in better condition.

Finally I fitted it althought the airbag will never function (I like the looks the handling feeling compared to the old one, this one feels smaller and thicker).

My problem now is the horn (itīs not working right now because of the different type of Hub connection)I also purchased the original conector (the one with the cables for the airbag quite prizey!!!) to make the horn functional (itīs not funny going on the highway at 220Km/h an suddenly seeing a car pulling in front of you <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

When I tried this weekend to install the connector it didnīt fit because I think the name is the turning signal tree unit I think should also be from the newer model <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />

So after making all this mess I have decided to sell all of the pieces and try to look for a nice steering wheel without airbag. I,ve checked on the Ruf web page but the one they have is quite expensive over $400.

I would like to hear from all of you who have changed the steering wheel and if possible post or send pictures and comments on it.

Here's some pics of my Momo (sorry, can't remember the model).

You can click on the second image for a bigger version

Best mod I ever made - the steering is sharper, the wheel is so comfortable to hold, its leather is grippy enough that only a light touch is needed to grip it. It's a lot lighter than the standard wheel, also.

I too have ordered the Momo wheel ( Monte Carlo ) and the Momo hub/boss as I think the original wheel makes the whole interior look too dated. But more importantly I hope that it brings the wheel nearer to the driver for more leg/thigh clearance and a better driving position, for me anyway.

I have an RS steering wheel which is about 1cm smaller in diameter and sits maybe 3 cms nearer the driver. I felt I had to do this because I did not have a lot of clearance between my fingers and my thigh during clutching/cornering.

I didn't think I had one at work, but....yes, I believe it is a 993RS wheel and it cost from memory around Ģ225.

That does look the part..
Will see how the Momo looks and the extra leg loom it gives, if any, and if not I will be ordering an RS wheel.

You might want to try this one from <a href="http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/inventory/view_product?prod_id=218&part_number=AJR%20348%20084" target="_blank">AJ-USA</a> a lot of people on Pelican have this wheel. You might want to call them because there should be one for the non airbag 964's. And yes there is a Porsche crest in the middle of it.

Alex,

I have a MOMO Corsa 32cm dia steering wheel, just a bit on the small side but I have had it since my first ever car so I'm keeping it!

Christer, that's the 993 RS wheel you've got there!

Ciao,

Johannes E.

I've changed my airbag wheel to a non-airbag model that I'm very pleased with. It's often called Clubsport, and I think it was the stock item in the 968 CS. I paid extra for a crest and a 10 mm spacer. It looks great and it is also smaller than the airbag wheel. You can see it on the Cargraphic site, the model is called Formel.

I have a Momo Montecarlo, just like you, John B. It is absolutely my favorite! Used to have a Momo Corse but I felt that my hands were resting a bit to low due to its shape.
I use a Raid hub which also makes the horn work which it does not if you convert from airbag to non-airbag using the Momo hub.
On my previous 968 CS I had the wheel mentioned by ThomasC2. It was beautiful but the Momo Montecarlo is even better for me.

I wrote a <a href="http://www.porsche964.nl/my964/drivingpos.php" target="_blank">web page</a> describing my setup

Cheers,

The 993 RS wheel is one of my favourite wheels, but a bit too 'modern' looking.

Then again, if I thought my head was ever going to come into contact with it, I might feel differently!

I like the factory motorsport MOMO. It's the same as the MOMO 07 but with Porsche script engraved and filled in red paint on right spoke and Porsche crest horn button.
