Survey: Does Your 964 Have This Weld?
As shown in these pics. The weld in the second pic is the same weld I'm trying to show in the first pic. It attaches the bottom side of the inner (body mounted) door stay strap to the sheet metal in the door jamb. The outer and inner straps are pinned at the joint.
<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/DoorStayDetailed.jpg" alt=" - " />
Viewed from the bottom side of the strap (looking up):
<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/DoorStayWeld.jpg" alt=" - " />
The reason I ask. Based on <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/cgi-bin/rennforums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=004187;p=3" target="_blank">this thread</a>, it appears that 993s don't have this weld. In addition, Mike J.'s 911 SC doesn't (well, didn't) have the weld, either (Mike owns both a 993 an SC). My car has the weld on both doors, and I'm 99% confident they're factory.
Thanks!

Hi Randall,
I see you have more time for yourself.
YES, Mine is also welded, I send you the picture.
It's a very sharp photograph, so please put it on this topic.
So others can see what you mean.
See you all, guys,
Greetings,
Arjan

I THOUGHT that mine wasn't welded.
The 'link' pokes through a hole in the 'A' post. I took the pictures below to illustrate and, to my surprise, it looks like there IS some welding at the bottom edge. I'll inspect further when I get the chance - I've just put everything away again!

<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/Dcp01747.jpg" alt=" - " />
Edit: They both have the weld along the bottom edge.

Thanks Arjan, JB. Looking like this weld was standard on the 964.
Here's Arjan's weld (shrunk just a little from the 1200x1600 pic he sent me <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> ). Great shot:

Finally someone else sees what I've been trying to describe on this board for a year!
I have a 90 C2 that has this wild broken on the driver door. I have tried to get advise
on how to repair it but noone seems to know what I'm talking about. On mine the weld
is broken and the tab slide back and forth when opening the door. I tried to get to it from
the inside of the car with no luck I also tried fronm the fender.. no good.
Has anyone else had this happen and is there a way to fix it without rewelding? If I reweld
it it is going to be a mess... I tired to drill into it to catch the tab in the rear without any
luck with this either.
A fix or suggestion would be a great.

Hey Mike,
You'll find a choice of repair options (none of them pleasant) at the 993 thread link I provided on my first post, above.
Good luck!

Both welded on my 1991 C2 Targa.
I would remove the door, grind out some of the old weld, clean it and degrease the area, pack the area with welders heat barrier putty and reweld it with a MIG or TIG welder. Clean again and prep the area for paint.
It is worth doing it right!

I think it's safe to assume Arjan can't tolerate squeaks, and likes to keep things well lubed.
