I want to update my German spec 89 C4 to Canadian daytime running lights.I have European PET / Factory 964 wiring diagrams but as I have never seen a 964 with these lights its difficult to know what parts I need . Can anyone help?

I just updated my car with daytime running lights. All you have to do is buy the appropriate relay and plug it in. The DRL's utilize the foglights and come on with the ignition and go off when the headlights are turned on (unless u pull the foglight switch on the dash).

Thanks for that. I saw Relay R63 but didnt realise it was so simple to get this going. To save another topic do you know if full lap/diagonal are required in the rear ?

So , cover off the fuse box to find the connector for R63. No wiring . This confirms Wiring diagrams for 89 model year - R63 not used!
OK , I can fix this but then M553 US/Canada have different front /rear light clusters.I took a rear light out and sure enough if the hole was there , there was a place for another rear light bulb!
Anywhere I can find out what lights come on with each light switch position / motor off or running to get the wiring fixed .

Are you sure the place for the other lightbulb in the rear isn't for fog lamps? At least in the US, DRL are only on the front, not the rear.

What is the appropriate relay (part number)?

No, my 964 has Fogs front and rear.It looks like there are extra running lights in the wrap rounds that can be seen better from the side + the European turn indicator in the side of the fender/wing becomes a white running light.
I am back in Halifax NS in April so I guess I will have to find a Canadian 964 and look at the lights!Maybe this new dealership will be open !!!!!!!
Thanks for trying to help.

I am in New Brunswick - a 4 hour drive from Halifax and might be in Halifax in the spring so you can have a peak at my Canadian 964 if you'd like -- or I can try to snap a picture of what you're interested in.

Thanks for that Marc Shaw, appreciated. It doesnt look like I will be bringing my
964 over on this trip but I am very keen to get this stuff understood so that I can get parts while I am there.
I dont think I have explained enough about my European light set up.
I have on the front, a white fog ,an amber turn and an amber turn repeater on the wing/fender.
Looking at the wiring diagrams and remembering what cars have in the US/Canada , I think you have fog , amber turn and park , and another amber park on the outside of the bumper with no fender light.

On the rear I have red stop / park and amber turn- 2 bulbs.I think you have
stop/park and a second park facing the outside of the bumper - 3 bulbs.

Sorry to go about this but I will have enough hassle getting my 964 over without having to do a rewire job on the dockside!!!!!!!

On a lighter note ,maybe I should move the Christmas tree lights over to the 911!
