As you can see I have a nice hole in my rubber boot that connects the alternator/fan housing to the heater blower inlet. It used to be a small crack, but the guy who did my tech inspection felt inclined to show me it was cracked by pulling off a bigger chunk - now I really can't try to fix it, it will need replacement.
I was curious if anyone has replaced this part; and what is its part number in case the dealer is my last resort?!! I assume it is a separate part from the entire upper engine cover and appears sandwiched between the shroud and the upper cover. Any tips/clues would be appreciated!

It is interesting that the C4 RS lightweight had a mesh screen over this opening - the engine must not have needed the additional cooling afforded by having this hole blocked off entirely...

...thought of duct tape for the race this coming weekend, but it will probably get hot, lose its stickiness, and come off and end up somewhere I don't want it...

With your part number, I found that Pelican has the part!
Fan Shroud Heater Outlet - 911 C2/C4 (1990-95)
Excellent! I'll see if the dealer is cheaper, then go from there...

Thanks for the tips guys - the dealer has a new part in stock - I figure if I got a used part (for $20 not including shipping at PartsHeaven) it will probably end up cracking sooner, and I'll end up spending more time and money than the $39 it costs for a new part!

You guys were right - quite the easy operation! Dealer had it for $39 - same price as Pelican but I don't need to pay shipping (other than the drive to the dealer in the cold, with the cabrio top down!!!). Found out that Sunset Porsche has it for $28. Next time when I am not in need of the car by Friday...
Took about five minutes to undo the three little 10mm bolts, remove the old part, peek into the top of the engine case and marvel at all the crud I'll one day clean up, then put on the new part, wrestle the rubber piece around the blower motor inlet duct, and tighten down the 3 screws. Mission accomplished!
