Default 964 body offset compared to chassis

I read somewhere that the aircooled 911 body shell was something like 3 cm off center from left to right compared to the actual chassis

Looking at my 964 I clearly notice that the wheels are more inwards on the right side compared to the left side and I would like to know if anyone can confirm that

Yes, the 964/993 are off-center, wheels are closer to the fender on the driver's side. I've heard it's to compensate for driver weight but have no idea if that's accurate.

Get out…. Really?? That’s info I need to have because I always thought it was strange that the clearance seemed different from side to side- especially the rear.

My 964 is also offset as described. I had an '89 3.2 Carrera that also had the offset. My mechanic told me that's typical.

go out and measure yours
In back the easiest and most obvious is on the inside between wheel and chassis but between wheel and lip also shows, every single one that I have measured, (about a dozen +/-) has ~ .25" less clearance on the inner right and ~.25" less on the outer left

seats/steering are another off kilter spot

Holy **** this just blew my mind. I was convinced that when I reinstalled my front subframes and suspension I had installed it off center due to the differences in front wheel to fender clearance... this is good news! Thanks RL.
