Default Sound bar possibility?

It's time to some speaker upgrades...

I have an RS Tribute, with a ton of OEM Factory bits...door card--with the factory 6.5" in full range, no separate tweeter (that's it for speakers). Rear seat delete. Rear deck carpet that doesn't have any holes cut...and those rear deck speakers are essentially useless and ruin the clean look.

I'd love to be able to be as non-destructive as possible and was thinking of exploring a sound bar that could tuck between the RSD and Rear deck carpet.

Might be dumb? I don't know...but would love to be able to get a little more volume in the cabin without cutting anything up.

Anyone ever try to install any small subs in the RSD box?

I upgraded the door speakers and then put a self powered subwoofer in one of the storage bins.
Not audiophile level but a big improvement over stock without cutting anything.

I have the same setup, this is what I have done.

Head unit with built in amp Sony Dsx-gs80 (4x100w)
JBL gto620

Descent sound and no extra amp needed.

Right now I have one of Tore's Continental headunits, the amp under the passenger seat running to the Polk speakers in the doors and that's it. I'm not looking to blow the doors off, but I need a little more volume.

I strapped a JBL Boombox 2 to my harness/rear cage thinking it would be enough for me to hear music. My stereo and speakers were removed a long time ago and when I refurbished the car, nothing made sense except what I came up with. It works Ok but 100% of the time the windows are down and I have a pretty loud exhaust system so I’m constantly adjusting the volume or never even turn it on!

Just poking around...

Sound bar-small, non-powered (would upgrade the amp under the passenger seat)
Would sit in the crease from the rear seat delete to the firewall

Mount something like this in one of the storage compartments:

Really like the sub in the cabinet idea.

You would need a really powerful system to drone out the normal engine sound while driving and deprive yourself with that sensation keep it factory and enjoy the sound, just a thought.

Fully agree on the sounds and sensations.

This may be more than 'a little'. No affiliation, haven't heard them.

Not sure those would work with the dropdowns for the rear seat delete. Nice idea, though.

I think I have a good sub option that can be mounted inside the RSD. Just need to find some Mid- Tweeters for the back...maybe.

I have a single CAI sub in both my 993 and 964. If you call him, he will sell you just the passenger side, which is much easier to power than dual subs with a stealth amp install.

I did not permanently mount them because I don't want to drill holes, but they do alright just snugged up in the rear footwell. Infinitely better than any low profile box you'll find or rear deck fitment.

Can't comment on fitment with the rear seat delete, but I'm guessing you could make it work with a little modification - it's just a sub mounted onto a sheet of MDF.

Single is a great idea especially if it takes up any leg room from the front seat. My seat is always all the way back. Btw, got the black cup 1 reps. Thanks, Dubbed743!

Advman89- what dropdowns do you have on your rear seat delete (pics?)? I've got one in storage pending installation but nothing drops down below seat level.

Glad you like the wheels!

For the record, the subs do prevent the seat from going all the way backwards. If anyone is thinking about going this route, I ordered one in 2013 and 2018, and by 2018 said he was having difficulty matching some of the OE carpet colors. Don't know if that situation has gotten better or worse since then.

just scored an 07 MX-5 (Miata) PO installed a sub under the DS and midrange/tweeter by the door I am very impressed with the set up not boomy but you can feel the base kicking right in your Coccyx and no distortion.
