Warning about 90 C4 on the market - VIN WP0AB2961LS450167
#31
Has anyone reported his listing to eBay for vehicle misrepresentation? If i'm not mistaken it's in the listing policies that you must list the VIN. While it's up to potential buyers to perform their own due diligence and not buy on emotion. However, it could be helpful and save someone from making a huge costly mistake?

I am currently removing the sunroof from my car by installing a factory roof panel. They are crazy stupid expensive $7600 list. Since we are as my friend puts it filleting the roof of I am quite in tune with how panels and seems should look. It is far more complicated than some videos show and takes a lot of patience measuring and in our case fixtures to do properly.
I am not sure if this is the same seller that sold the black 90 C4 on BaT a long while back to a friend but this car has the same screw holding the rocker on so I suspect it might be. If it is I say run he had the same argument how he knows cars and in the end the car was completely misrepresented.
It is mentioned that this is a rare factory sunroof delete car although I am not so convinced. Form my experience this car has had at least one rear quarter panel replaced and possibly the entire roof skin. This is pretty apparent from the pictures despite that the car is white and one of the hardest colors to see detail from pictures
This picture clearly shows the remnants of the tab from a replacement panel. This is actually present on all 964's but when they left the factory the tab is cut off so it can't be seen. This is a huge mistake that body shops that don't know these cars make leaving the tab on and cutting it off later leaving visible remains behind. A proper cut tab should look like the ones I pictured as you can see it is a straight cut and is well inside the framework being completely invisible from above. I have more than a half dozen factory original 964's to compare to at any given time and I have been very careful to inspect cars for this. Anyone who claims otherwise is being less than truthful. Also it would need more careful inspection but appears they welded a new roof skin to the old without properly separating the old panel from the lower panel. This should be a clean single panel line showing and not show any layers but as I said needs further investigation. I would be curious if this was a factory sunroof delete car as it would be only the third I have seen and quite rare but I suspect the current skin isn't what left the factory.

The options sticker is intact on the car and In good readable condition and unmodified. It Does not list option 650.
it’s possible it has had fender replacements
given how original the car is, despite its issues, i would highly doubt the roof panel, even if it was replaced, was not delivered that way.

God, that's beyond terrible. That's not even trying. You can buy a good used sharkfin for about $60 from Autobahn if the tabs on the underside have broken off. I would be disappointed if the $60K car I just bought showed up with that Mickey Moused repair.

It’s now on hemmings, of course no mention of the complete poor state it’s in.

Was it parked outside For years Sitting at the ocean? I’ve never seen one like this. It’s not normal for a ca car....
must have been right on the coast...

Even $30k is questionable for this coupe, that is a significant amount of corrosion.
We can’t argue that the seller has spent some money to repair some of the car although without receipts and detailed pictures it’s difficult to confirm the quality of the work. Based upon the most current pictures it’s also clear that the cosmetic work done was very much focused on the surface only which means there’s rust lurking throughout this car.

It really puzzles me how the seller doesn’t disclose any of this when he knows it, downright scummy flipper.

I know of a C2 tip that sold for $6k that had some bad rust but nothing this wide spread. This reminds me of the old Jeep Wranglers that you would see in the 80's on Nantucket or Block Island just barely holding together. Looks like it had the rear quarter was replaced a long time before these photos, most likely the entire side was repaired resulting in all the rust due to poor prep work. Even Hank Moody would be embarrassed to drive this one. Not sure Singer would take this one on. LOL I suspect there is even more going on that isn't right that we can't see.

Maybe it was washed with ocean water?
this car has been consistently registered and passed smog since 96 in california. Smog checks are every 2 years or on sale. You can see one 4 year gap. So it’s not like it sat for a massive time not being driven....Unless it’s fake / forged checks.... which on a car like this would be unlikely.
the level of corrosion is just bizarre for a ca car

Maybe it was parked on the beach or driven on the beach regularly? Looks more like a UK or Upstate NY car to me.
