this car has been consistently registered and passed smog since 96 in california. Smog checks are every 2 years or on sale. You can see one 4 year gap. So it’s not like it sat for a massive time not being driven....Unless it’s fake / forged checks.... which on a car like this would be unlikely.
the level of corrosion is just bizarre for a ca car

Agree it's unusual. Only guess is that it was stored outside by an owner who lived very close to the water. I saw that once before with a 560SL that was a CA car from new. It had been maintained perfectly well mechanically but the owned lived in Carlsbad less than 200 steps from the ocean for most of its life and it had rust bubbles in tons of areas. That owner was at least up front about it though...

So apparently the price was lowered to $54,000 LOL ... I wouldn’t even buy it at 20k. I’ll buy it for $5,400

"I have a personal collection of vintages cars including Porsches, Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Toyota Land Cruisers, mustangs and more. I am always buying and selling cars for fun as a hobby."

I'm so impressed.

Just stumbled on this thread and like another poster's comments, the rust is surprising. These cars are galvanized and barring an exposure of the raw metal should be able to withstand winters without issues as grave as what's shown in the photos.

LOL. "Good from afar. Far from good."

Reminds me of college drunk hookup nights.

Hmmmm...

This has more than run its course. Just wonder if there is another agenda by the OP...

Some good info from all... And as an '89 911 C4 owner myself - yes, there are issues with the cars. Adrain wrote an entire book on those "warts". I would probably know.

This thread is closed.

This thread will remain closed in an effort to prevent dog-piling. However, in the event that any new information is discovered, either positive or negative, please send me a PM so I can re-open the thread.

Thanks, everyone.
