Unhappy 964 Sunroof Stuck

So I'm continuing my journey of fixing things that I didn't over the course os the 25 years I've owned my '91 964. Because it didn't get enough exercise, my sunroof has become stuck (closed fortunately). While trying to free it I apparently broke a linkage to the motor or a cable or something.
Could use some experienced guidance on
  • Would a product like WD-40 applied to the seals on top of the roof be a bad idea? Better ideas?
  • Isn't there a manual means of opening and closing the sunroof? If so, how can I access it? If not, WTF do I do?
  • To repair whatever I broke, do I have to remove the headliner?

Isn't there a zipper inside the car , in the cieling, which you can open and attatch a emergency winder tool to?! There is a description for that in my 993 drivers manual. My manual is written spanish and my car us a sunroof delete so I can't take this further!

Both cables likely snapped, I have one one that has snapped and plan on tackling this soon myself.

You can access the motor in the back of the headliner by unzipping the zipper. For the sunroof itself, you need to remove the interior panel to access the hardware to remove it and gain access to the other end of the cables.

Last time I researched, the replacement cables had slightly larger ends that needed to be filed down to match the old ones. Not sure if this is still the case or not, I suspect someone who knows will chime in.

This is the thread I saved awhile back: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...lp-please.html

Time to do a sunroof delete? I'm glad to have a 993 without sunroof and rear wiper, both are potential costly troubles!

Nah, sounds scarier than it is, is my impression.

It’s unlikely the cable has snapped. Is more likely that the front connection for the cable has come out of its fitting. I’ll check my thread and link to it.

Interesting, the right side is what mine does but whether the cable snapped or the end wore off, personally I would rather just replace the cables while I was in there knowing I will never have to take it apart again.

Could also be a stuck “gearbox” at the rear above the zipper. A smart whack with your hand mid-way across the zipper would get it moving again. Mine does this occasionally. They run for ridiculous money - something like 500$ - so the thump will have to do for me for a while!

Worth a try as a start.

Interested to know if you opened your sunroof. Mine needs a refresh and doesn't quite catch the plastic clips that 'flip' the plastic/ metal air dam and related pieces when the sunroof is just about to close up. also bought the seals a few years ago and finally have some time to tackle this job! I completed the job of cutting of the hole in the tunnel below the shifter to make room for the oval bushing and RS short shift on the earlier 964s. So, on a roll and taking advantage of this stay at home time...
