Default Short Shift kit for C4

For a while, it seemed like there wasn't a great short shift kit for the C4's and now there are some better designs out. Curious if anyone has experience with the FDM Short Shift Kit and/or the Fister Design one. Not sure how to compare them in terms of how much they tighten up the shifts. The Fister one looks pretty slick with the different shaft and ****. Any input or thoughts would be appreciated.

The two kits you linked are essentially the same (FDM = Fister Design Motorsports) just one includes a shift **** and the other doesn't.
The problem is that both of them still require modifying the center tunnel cover on the C4 (see instructions here)
I don't particularly want to decrease my ground clearance or put a nice big dimple in my center tunnel cover, even if a replacement is only $230.

There's is a short shift kit from Sleepers Speed Shop that supposedly doesn't require modifying the tunnel written up here: http://www.superstreetonline.com/how...ifter-upgrade/ but I think the shifter they offer is pretty ugly. I wish they offered a **** more like the Fister or the Rothsport.

Thanks, I didn’t realize they were the same. Agree, I’m not interested in losing ground clearance either.

That Sleepers kit looks pretty good. I’ve read that article before, but don’t see the product on their website. I emailed them a while back, didn’t hear anything, so maybe I’ll give them a call to see if it’s available.

Oh cool, never seen that superstreet article. Thats my car. haha.

the sleepers **** is replicated off the early 911 cars. Same shape. If its not your cup of tea... its an easy switch. Im using a Circuit Hero aftermarket ****.

It's not the **** that bothers me, it's the I-beam shaft. For some reason it doesn't bother me on the Wevo shifter for an early car, but on the 964 I far prefer a cylinder.

Hi,
I think this design is very good, the best in my opinion for the C4, the caution is to Locktite very well every bolts so nothing comes loose with time as there is a lot of them.
apparently it also comes with a lever that could accept the original gear ****, meaning the OEM leather boot and **** could be used...
I also like the fact they offer an upgrade for the front rod for the C4 with rose joints bearings. I even wonder if it could be connected to the CAE shifter by machining a special lever...
I am very interested, so far I guess it is the best system, I will try and talk to them soon.

Also, in case anyone is interested, you can check out post #19 on my build journal to see what I did with mine. I have not decided on which **** I am using and I have not installed the kit yet, but I tried to clean up a few things that I wasn't 100% crazy about.

koenig_roland did this 6 years ago, and Ruf did it well before that. I’ve had an extra slider/clamshell sitting on my shelf and hope to get to this at some point.

Timing is everything. I received an email from Sleepers responding to my email from December asking about the short shift kit. They are doing a production run and currently doing pre-sales, if anyone is interested. I ordered the basic kit to keep the factory shift boot and shift ****.

How much? How do you pre-order. Agree the shaft is not to my taste.

Probably best to give them a call. I did everything over email, but they were responding to my request from December.

Hi Jared,
Your interior looks nice, and the lever takes place nicely .
I am ordering the kit at the moment.
What happened to the rubber for shredding at the edge ?
I also like the ****, did you had it made by Sleepwalker, is it nylon or aluminium ?
Cheers
Konstantin

thanks!

the end of the rubber boot started to rip. Probably due to the heat? I ended up trimming the rubber a little bit with a blade.

the **** i’m using is an aluminum weighted **** by a brand called Circuit Hero. I used it cause it matched nicely with the shaft.
