Road America lap times?
Curious what respectable and good lap times are for a 964 at road America. Im getting 2:50 and while I think I’m driving well it doesn’t seem too fast considering a guy here is pulling 2:35 in an e30 m3.

That’s probably not bad for a stock car with street tires. Really depends on your suspension and tires and is definitely fast enough for a street car without cage and additional safety equipment. It’s a great track!

It was a PACKED group over Labor Day so it was super tough to get open track. The best I did was a 36.4 with traffic, screw up in T12 and lifted at start/finish. Split time report from Aim shows a 34.0 if I could have strung a good lap together. The Sunday 8am session had the clearest track as I'm assuming some opted to sleep in after a late night at Siebekns
Here's an onboard, enjoy!

(Stock motor with headers/chip/air filter, Moton shocks, Big Red front brakes and Hankook DOT track tires)

Not exactly apples to apples but in a G class 964 (stock brake sizes) and running Bilsteins (not motons or JRZs), I managed a high 2:32 but the car was a race car on hoosiers. In a full weight 993 on MPSCs (motons) during an HPDE I was at a high 2:34, so I think you have some time there to get down to maybe a low 2:40 or so. Like Franklin said though great times on a stock car without safety equipment. Def get those for Road America if you're going faster. However, take baby steps at road america and get a good coach. There are a handful of spots on that track that if done right can lead to big chunks off your lap time (and when done wrong obviously take your lap time the other way). Anything leading to a long straight (there is a lot of spots that do) can make dramatic differences in your lap times. If you are local to Road America, id consider hiring Dan Clarke for a day and watch your lap times drop significantly. I work with Dan a lot and he is amazing.

Don't listen to Mo, he doesn't know anything about Road America. HAHAHHAAHA!! (yes, that's a joke)
He's right, 2.50 is a solid start, start working on your largest areas of opportunity first. Like Mo says, minor improvements in T1, T3, the Carousel and T14 will yield big numbers in your lap times. (yes I purposely left out the Kink). I hope to cross paths with you at the track, I love seeing the folks that are still driving these cars like they were intended!
