Default Expiration date for "old" new parts

I just replaced my original transmission mounts (89k miles) with "new" ones and I noticed the manufacturing date on the fresh mounts was 10/97. So the "new" mounts, purchased from a reputable dealer, have been sitting on a shelf for over 20 years. Does that mean rubber bushings, etc. don't age? Visually the new mounts seem fine but I am wondering about the expiration dates of parts like that.

Rubber do age. Have you experienced aged rubber bands breaking on you? Surgical latex gloves and tires have date stamps for a reason.

That's my point. So when we install "new" parts that aren't exactly new, are we we really improving the car? Some of these parts don't seem to have an aftermarket equivalent - I couldn't find transmission mounts for a '90 Tiptronic - that was produced yesterday. Am I overthinking this?

Buy function first insert and be done with it.

Unfortunately I don't think that's a solution for a '90 Tip - unless I am missing something.

Personally for things like transmission mounts etc. I wouldn’t worry about it. If rubber parts are not exposed to O-Zone and our unused They they seem last of very very long time.

Agree, I have settled on that thought as well and I have to assume that Porsche is storing these part in decent conditions.

If they were sealed in plastic they should last longer

Would people use a NOS cam gasket kit or too risky for leakage?

I wouldn't... too much work to go in again and redoing it if it doesn't work the first go around.
