Default My custom decklid Whaletail.

Hi RL,
just thought i’d share a little project i did with my 964 in adding a Carrera whale tail.
RSA american tails go for a lot of money but the only visible difference was the wiper plug. So I sourced a late 80’s carrera tail in rough shape for a great price. Then eventually the Gbody decklid came right after.

I wanted to shake things up a bit. But not go too wild. Louver vents on a decklid seem to be a popular choice. Then i thought speed hole vents... and finally went the extra mile to have the basic decklid dimpled.

Sleepers speed shop had a dimple dye set with a variety of hole sizes. I had them do a basic pattern and tuck the holes as tight to the wing as possible.

here are some pics to share from the speed shop to the painters, to the finished product. Enjoy!

I love the imagination. So many things being done now days are "me too" and kind of just copies of what others have done. It has a very factory - but not - look.

Looks great. Love the TE37s on that car. I usually don't like them on a Porsche but your car is the exception to that.

The area under the trail will be very low pressure at speed. I have a tail on mine and it's crazy how much dust collects under the trail. The holes/ vents you cut will probably lead to hot air being pulled out of the engine bay, which is good, but it will probably also result in a bit less less downforce from the wing.

Cool project. Looks great.

Nothing special. Its a Billy Boat exhaust system with billy boat headers. The tips the exhaust come with is hideous. So i had a muffler shop make me new basic angle tips.

Looks good, but don't you want pressure in that area of the trunk for the fan to pull over the motor to cool it?

Thanks! 356 race cars and long hood 911s have been venting decklids for years. I dont see these tiny holes causing an issue. But thank you for your concern and input.
