964 RS Differences to normal C2 detail needed
I am currently doing an RS tribute / evocation project with my C2 coupe. I know I wont get the details perfect, but could do with a list of differences from C2 to RS. Also the differences between the 'RS Touring' which I believe is a ROW car.
Currently I am:
Deleting frunk carpet
Welding mount for Battery isolator
Hood support rod
Deleting sunroof
Rear screen without hole
Rear bumper centre section
Cup mirrors
Cup1 reps
PSS10
RS spec polybushed
Drilled / slotted discs
Rear seat delete
Steering wheel
Colour change to Rubystone.
It is the visual detail inside and outside the car I am interested in.
Thanks

I know your looking for visual differences but what makes the RS special is what is not seen. The seam welding is a huge improvement. This stiffens up the tub tremendously. The location of the welds can be found in the factory workshop manuals.
You would need to install the ROW side markers if they aren't there already along with the ROW RS fog lights and magnesium alloy wheels. Please don't use PSS10's they are junk. I would consider spending up for some motion control if you want a decent ride and more capability. If you download the ROW Porsche PET for the 964 you will be able to see more of what is unique to the 3.6 RS. Finding a set of RS hardback seats might be difficult and definitely costly for what they are. IIRC 9M was making reproductions but I don't recall if they ever made them. I believe you can get the light weight rear glass without hole, heat or thrid brake light from Cult Werks they also make a perfect reproduction of the RS rear bumper section.

You could eat out of that engine bay. Good god it's immaculate.

They did not have cup mirrors.

If Touring, here's a few pictures of one: https://www.garagecurrent.com/en/car/21026
- I think you need a lightweight hood for the prop rod.
- Sunroof was optional on an RS Touring so you can leave it in and still have the visual detail 'correct'.
edit: other specs detailed in Bob Gagnon's document

Bob Gagnon wrote an excellent article detailing the differences between a 964 C2, 964 RS, RSA and US Carrera Cup. I'll be happy to email you a copy when I get home next week

I'm preparing to take a 993 race car that was built somewhere between an RS Clubsport and an RSR spec. What I've learned in my research is that a lot (maybe most? all?) of the RS/CS/Cup cars were special ordered to the customer spec, and as a result there really isn't a 100% true replica. One big example is that some 993 CS's had carpet, others didnt. Similar case with 964 RS, Cup, etc cars in many ways. Especially after a lot of those Cup cars were converted back for street use.
My point is, I wouldn't get too held up on building a "perfect" replica. Build the car as you would've ordered it and don't worry if you want to put A/C in an RS, because a some people did in fact order them with it.

All great info guys. Thank you.
I am not going for a pure replica, want to make my C2 as nice as possible as a drivers car, and because I’m changing the colour from Guards red to Rubystone the RS theme seemed like the way to go.
i already Polybushed and fitted PSS10’s a couple of years ago, and I recently fitted a LWF and RS engine mounts, oh and a decat. The way the car drives is very engaging and fun, so I’m most likely going to leave the mechanical side alone. I might change the alternator belt to single, so it looks right when the engine lid is open.
I am going to delete the sunroof (already have the Fenn lane panel), and replace the rear screen so there is no hole, and change the centre of the rear bumper.
Not 100% decided on interior. Probably rear seat delete, and have my seats retrimmed same as RS touring, but really not sure.
I will post up some images as I go.

For simple external references sunroof, washer delete and rear screen/wiper delete are the most obvious, though there are RS's around with one or all of these things specced as extras from the factory
As it sounds like you're in the UK Back it off I would get hold of Mark Taylor at Specialised windscreens for your rear screen
Do you know where you are going to get your sunroof delete done?

No foglights on an RS, they use clear blanking plates

I will be doing the roof myself. I am a bodywork guy, semi retired, trying to be fully retired. I work mainly on Italian Classics, and Historic race cars.
I have already colour changed the engine bay, and the frunk area is almost finished. The reason for going with Rubystone, apart from liking the colour is, I won’t have to declare the colour change in the vehicles title documents. It is already listed as ‘Red’ and I am just changing it to a different type of red. (Originally GR).
My initial plan was to widebody it in steel, but doing the arches in a Singeresque style exposing a lot of the tyre, but my intention now is to sell it when it is finished so I am going down the RS route. But hey, who knows, I may end up keeping it.
