happened to me a while back. Read the code and the front left or right airbag crash sensor went bad. As i understand it they are NLA and very expensive. I bought a resistor kit that is an easy plug in to the system and turns the light off. Be careful though because it also disables ALL your airbags. try this thread

Can be caused by the clock, it is known to have dodgy soldering in the back. Safest bet is to have it rebuilt, there is a shop in CA that specializes in this.

Mine came on this past week as well, along with the seat belt light. Near as I can tell, the only way to reset is with a Hammer Tool. Some folks have found the cause to be corrosion on a connector that once cleaned, solved the problem, some folks have found the problem to be within the clock that once re-soldered, solved the problem. I am hoping mine turns out to be that type of simple fix.

I'd like to have/keep operational air bags and I'm going to be bummed if the system can no longer be fixed due to a lack of available parts.

The suggested life span of an airbag is ten years, I dont know about you but I never felt comfortable having a 27 year old explosive charge pointed at my chest/face. I disabled mine with bridge plug available at dealer and put in a Momo wheel. The only way to turn off the warning light, as mentioned above is with the Bosch Hammer or equivalent.. Most of the parts are available but are super expensive, I read somewhere that Audi/VW or Mercedes parts can be fitted and they are not cheap either.

Had issues with seatbelt and airbag lights. After having them reset twice took my clock and speedometer to Seattle Speedometer and had the clock repaired and the speedometer gear replaced. No more lights, it has been several months with out any problems.

OH yeah, forgot my seat belt light was on too. I had the dealer reset the lights and they came back on within a day so I bypassed with the plug. ~$30 fix.

See that this thread been awhile but I see some mention the word “Clock”. Are you talking about the digital time clock or another part?
having same issue on my 88 turbo where the seat belt and air bag light stays on.

I see the word “Clock” means the dash or gauge cluster 🤘🏼. Makes sense cause this happened few months later after i removed the cluster to replace bulbs on it.

Another common problem is the two airbag sensors in the frunk. Over time they lose their level of resistance and when below a certain Ohm-value it triggers the airbag ECU/warning light. Fairly easy to replace.
But you need a Hammer tool to reset the light, and you should use the Hammer to see if there are any error codes and you can also easily see which sensor that's gone bad (right or left). In the pic you see where they are located. That little black square box.

We are talking 964, not 944? Any gage or speedometer shop could repair this. I used Seattle Speedometer, since they are closer to me and I could avoid shipping my gages. There are several other shops around the country depending upon your location. Good luck with your repair.
