I see all these cup cars so much cheaper than the streets Gt3 and makes me wonder if they can be homologated for street

A 996 cup can be made street legal in Germany???
The legalization is a little bit "weak" and the process is not cheap at all (i was told, something around 5k)... but it is doable...

This car is incredibly fast and incredible build quality. Build sheet is quite extensive.

Sense Talked into me
[QUOTE=cobalt;14818248]I agree as much as I enjoy driving my old 964's on the track the newer cars are just so much more capable and easier to drive fast. You will be working to drive a 964 fast but it is a lot of fun. I'm one of the true die hard hold outs that doesn't expect to be the fastest out there just enjoys driving these old school cars as they were meant to be driven.

Thank you everyone for all the feedback as it is all great! You all bring a wealth of knowledge and brought me sanity. The path is so much clearer now and you all helped me really uncover what I really want to do. My youngest of 3 daughters is a senior in high school and once she is gone I will need a hobby. As much as I hate to admit it I'm going to need 2 cars. Now I see why so many members have multiple ones.. which is crazy to imagine as I'd never have thought this. (my wife has a weekend car its a convertible 2006 4S that she never wants to sell)
Goal:
#1 priority is the 964 as I want something to start working on. So who has a 964 they want to sell me? Anyone? I know they are becoming a needle in the haystack or at least one at a reasonable price.

Lots of good advice here. You have a fun problem.

Goal:
- Buy a 964 it will be a driver. I really want something I can tinker with and work on as my hobby so to speak. Want it be fun to drive. Loud enough to sound great yet quite enough to drive down to the beach or go on a weekend trip . Love the look of how a track car sits..... mod it between stock and track but something that won't beat the crap out of my on our crappy So. Cal streets.
- Figure out what will be the best track car. GT3 sounds like the ticket...... now I've have to do some more research on this as I'll probably want to stick to a budget of around $100k for this.

The main purpose of legalization is the insurace topic and the ability to participate at (reasonable) streetcar-trackdays...
dedicated race-car trackdays are much more expensiv here in germany and happen not so often, compared to the other events..
Back to topic:
with your aim, you should search for a 964 :-)

Thought I would throw out my .02 on this as I have both, 7.2 GT3 and 964 RS Cup. The two cars really can not be compared. The GT3 has effortless capabilities while the Cup assaults your senses. I think you need to identify the "experience" you are looking for because these two cars deliver very different ones. Both are great.
