993 RS 6 speed gearbox conversion
Hello everyone.
I rarely post but have been on Rennlist for many years. So firstly, I thank you all for the knowledge, the endless hours of search, seeing your amazing builds and the inspiration you've given me.
I have a 1990 964 C2 manual and am going to fit a 993 RS 6 speed gearbox with LSD.
My question are:
1.) Can I use a dual mass flywheel instead of a 993 RS LWF for my application? If so, do I use a 964 or a 993 DMF? I previously had a LWF fitted to my 964 5 speed box but didn't like it. Mostly street.
2.) I've read somewhere that a 964 C4 DMF is lighter than a 964 C2 DMF? Can anyone confirm? A good compromise and slightly lighter.
3.) There is an almost brand new 996 DMF available for sale where I live.
Part number 996 114 012 50G. Can I use this? Tried to search but came up empty.
4.) Will the driveshafts and flanges bolt up?
Here are some pictures of my car. It has a Steve Wong chip, Fabspeed headers and muffler, Dougherty 993SS cams, upgraded valve springs and TI retainers, 993 coil conversion, Bilsteins, Elephant racing polybronze bushings all round, Recaro SPGs, completely gutted the sound deadening, 18 BBS LMs.
Thank you in advance!

Welcome the the forum. Strong first post. Mega car too. What does it weigh?
I have no idea about any of the technical questions you asked, but I do remember a discussion years ago regarding a mid weight flywheel...
---- old thread, so may not be available ----

Hi Gents,
We've completed the engineering on the mid-weight RS flywheel (adds 7 lbs to the 13 lb factory item). These are still much lighter and far more durable than the OEM 38 lb Dual-Mass unit.
I'd love to hear from anyone interested in these so I know how many to make in the first run.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your replies and compliments.
964tit (great user name btw) - the car is handsome, the owner not so.
911 Jetta, thank you for the reference, very useful...shame that Andial closed down, otherwise their MWF will be a good alternative.
I haven't a clue how much she weighs currently...but in the wise words of Colin Chapman, "Simplify, then add lightness"
And finally Mr Bill Verburg...
You sir, have helped me before on Pelican BBS, about 17 years ago when I was asking about big red brakes.
So once again, thank you. You are a MIGHTY AWESOME resource.
Once I get all the pieces together, I will post pictures. Engine is getting a reseal at the moment, so will be a while yet.
Darin's golden rod and a Rothsport short shifter is going in too.

Burning Brakes
Interesting stuff.
If you could, maybe in another thread, post up what your "reseal" project entails. I'm seeing several local cars going through this, and there are very different scopes to the ultimate effort. I'd be interested in what you find, and what is done.
Thanks !
R.

The LWF stalling issue has been resolved for 99.9% of OBD1 cases via software. I don't see any benefit to welding weight back on or (as Porsche did) using a heavier pressure plate. Are there any?

Super 90 - I last did a rebulld about 6-7 years ago with Victor Reinz gaskets. Engine weeping here and there, so using Porsche seals this time. Will likely balance crank, pistons, rods too.
911Jetta - yes, Rennsport...(for some reason, my emails go unanswered when I last contacted them years ago?)
Black Betty - Frank, I'm based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Probably keeping the 964 box for another project. I met Marc Brands, a friend of yours who just relocated here. You have a great collection of cars btw.
Jason, the Steve Wong chip did help with stalling, I just couldn't live with the rocks in a can noise!

Ok, pulled the G50/31 2 box out of storage. A bit of cleaning done.
Just received the Golden rod and SSK from Darin. And the Rothsport billet shifter. What a piece of kit!
Next up, locating a DMF and clutch kit.
