Default Reverse: HELP!

Recently did a top end and she drives and runs like a dream. I cannot get the car to shift into reverse however. I bled the slave 2X so pretty sure that is not the issue. Did a search and a fair amount of discussion on non-964 cars. Anyone have any ideas here?

Thanks

What is happening when you try to engage reverse? Won't find the gear, grinding etc. Why did you bleed the slave 2x and did you notice this after you bled or you bled to try and remedy?

No grinding, it finds the slot (next to first) and when i release the clutch she moves forward. I bled to try and remedy. Thanks

so when she moves forward (when you think you've engaged reverse), is she actually in 1st? ie, when you release the clutch have you let it run up a few hundred rpm's moving forward & then see if it can shift into 2nd from there? ... meaning maybe it is indeed in 1st, when you "think" you made it all the way into reverse.

I only ask this, cuz I had a similar "feel", with reverse being hard to engage ,... meaning I really had to nudge it back & forth with pressure to the left near that center area between 1st & 2nd. It really took some finagling to get it into reverse. Changed my tranny oil & it really made a difference.

This was many years ago, so my memory may be missing slight details, but that was the jist of it.

.... or it could be a linkage adjustment?

hope this helps.

Some great thoughts. I have not tried to drive it in the gear that I think is reverse but moves the car forward. I am able to put it in first and drive and it and it feels like first so....whatever should be reverse is most likely the same as first. Therefore what is it that separates first fom reverse? That is the conundrum!

It makes me wonder if the bushing in the coupler on the shift rod @ the transmission is crapping out. If there's too much slop that would hinder reverse.

Another data point is I replaced the clutch slave with a new one. If it was defective then I assume it would not work for any gear?

This was my thought...the reverse is kind of a PITA and I've made the mistake of putting it into first instead of reverse as well + lack of any dash indicators really make it tough to tell the gear for people like me who don't have experience daily driving manuals...

To be clear: whether I put it in the slot that is where reverse should be OR in the slot that is first gear, she moves forward. I know what you mean about "finding" reverse. I found it and the cars moves forward.

"It makes me wonder if the bushing in the coupler on the shift rod @ the transmission is crapping out". This is possible, she has 150k on her. Do you have a part# or diagram that is what you are referring to??

Thanks

Im going to do this on mine versus buying the Goldenrod ($250). Reverse and fifth are a bit difficult on mine, but no rush since it mostly sleeps.
