There is a 87 silver rose 951 listed on craigs list with 220,000 miles on the original engine. Listed price $6000.00. My current 88 951 has 138,000 miles. This listed car based upon the pictures has been very well cared for, near perfect paint, not sure if a repaint is involved or not.. My question is : how many miles are to many miles to even bother looking at or considering buying a high miles 951 that listed . Thanks.

 

at that price, i wouldn't hesitate.
these are very long lived engines when cared for.
as long as no scratches on the bores they will pretty much run indefinitely...

That looks good, I would buy it in a heartbeat if I didn't already have "too many" according to the other half.

The high mileage wouldn't put me off as long as the Carfax doesn't show accident damage and the chassis/frame/bodywork also checks out as not having had serious or bodged damage repair. Paintwork I'd get professionally done anyway. Mechanical work is easy to rectify, engines can be rebuilt, interiors repaired and bodywork painted. Go check it out b4 lart buys it!

 

Man, that one is ready for a timing belt, big time... factor that into the price... I feel like $4500 - $5000 would be a good buy on it.

 

Minus a clutch change out I can and will handle the mech repairs.
