Factory 968 turbo RS transaxle FS:
Factory built original 968 turbo RS transaxle for sale $6,500 shipped conus obo
Happy new year everyone several years ago I purchased a large lot of spares kit from the old owner of the original black 968 turbo RS (bubbles car) he sold the car in 2009 and kept all spares as new owner did not want them. I got 2 transaxles in this deal and have finally got around to using one and have gone through both of them to document the internals. Here is what I have found and what is being offered for sale!
G44/03-2 porsche transaxle code stamped in bottom which matches factory 968 turbo parts catalog as a turbo RS transaxle with appropriate gearing for a race car and 75/75% assymetrical LSD differential. Part # 944.300.030.01
All external dimensions are the same as standard 968 transaxle.
Ring and pinion gear ratio is 3.77 even though part has a 37:9 marking I triple checked tooth count and it's actually the standard 3.77 34/9 ratio not sure why it was stamped differently at factory
34/9 tooth count 3.77 ratio
#01e409147? Last part digit is not visible because of factory hand scribed setup/build notes
Taller 5th gear 30/34 tooth count .882 ratio part #01e311361E
Taller 6th gear 27/38 tooth count .711 ratio part #01e311362k
Part #s are hand scribed into gear sets, this is as far as I have taken this transaxle down as it's easy to remove side cover and diff as well as rear tail section no special setup is required to reinstall and run. The 1-4 gears I'm not sure about or what kind of special differences are there like steel syncros or brass? Or if anything had been shot peened or hardened? Can't say for sure all I know is the factory would have done there best to ensure this box could have made it though a grueling 24hrs of lemans race. It shows little use, is very clean just a little dusty and scratched up and has been sitting In a shop in the U.K. for the last 20years collection dust and has been in my garage in Sonoma ca 95476 for the last 3 years doing the same. It shifts well bye hand in all gears and LSD holds over 25ft lbs before it breaks away. The little bit of residual gear oil inside diff carrier is very clean. It comes with the diff flanges just not shown in pictures this is ready to bolt in and drive just need a shifter mechanism. thanks

Upon talking with Roger at California Motorsports a 01E trans expert he had me confirm the tooth count on R&P and it is actually a standard 34/9 3.77 ratio as just triple checked bye myself today picture shows 34 ring gear teeth and very nice wear pattern with no unusual pitting or marks for normal use.
So it appears this trans would be good for almost 200mph as it really just has a longer 5th and 6th gear. Sorry for the confusion I have updated and corrected the transaxle specs to the best of my ability. Please pm me if you have questions or are interested in purchase.
Thanks Shawn

FWIW I was in touch with the seller before he sold the spare gearboxes he had at the time but he was not sure if it had the taller R&P of the turbo S or the stock R&P of the NA/turbo RS. As I was interested in the taller R&P of the turbo S, and now that I see this, it looks like I was right not to make him an offer.
This also confirms that the RS cars have the same R&P as the 968 NA, which is what's mentioned in the factory documentation.

So to drive this it would essentially be a stock 968 6 speed with longer 5th and 6th gearing?

Ideally I'd like a set of shorter ratios but combined with a taller R&P to compensate for the loss of top speed. Sounds expensive!
