Convert 968 tacho to 951, possible?

Default Convert 968 tacho to 951, possible?

Do anyone know if it is possible to convert a 968 tacho/odometer to a 951 version so I have the boostguage on the 968 tacho.

Advise please

can't you just put the 951 gauge set into the 968?

Yes that is possible but that would mean I have to find a late euro version with about the same km reading as the one in the car to be correct. Ofcourse I can dokument a change in the servicebook but I thought if this could be done it would be easier and more cost effective and also keep the corrected km reading.

So if anyone have done this or know it's possible please chime in

I am guessing the factory 968 turbo must have had a version of this?

Yes I think they had the 951 version in those cars which I also want to duplicate with my 968 with soon to be turbo engine.

Won't non-standard gauges affect the value of the car? If I was buying a car and I knew the odometer had been swapped, regardless if the owner assures me it was clocked to the correct mileage, I'd be very suspicious of the mileage. Just saying.

You could always document milage before the swap and after with a video that starts at the vin plate, moves to the stock odo... Then restarts with the new odo showing same number and then moving back over to the vin plate.

That doesn't make any sense, the car could have been driven 50k miles before the second video was made.

I've always been suspicious of such things when I found a later instrument cluster in one of my cars. The plastic was stamped with the date of production as most plastic parts are, and I was not told it was swapped when I bought it.

I guess if the op is building a replica it could be justified, then if it was a serious replica it would imo have to have the correct 968 turbo cluster.

I don't believe there's a 100.01% to prove you have or have not swapped or doctored an odo but forethought and documentation of good faith go a long way esp when so many of these cars have busted Odo's to begin with.

To be honest this has nothing to do with value for me but making the car that I really want. However, I really want to do this the best possible way.
For the odometer change/modification I will use a respected Porsche specialist to make the change/documentation and I trust that will ensure any future suspisions.

But before I get there I have to sort out the best way to get the gauges I want and for them to be as correct as possible.

So please anyone that might have info on my initial question, chime in.

If this was me I would swap the 968 speedometer gauge into a late 951 cluster and I'd use a reputable service to document the change. I've heard good things about <http://www.paspeedo.com/>, no affiliation.

Its not a big deal and I am 99% sure tge gauges will work together as you put them. I have completed few clusters from different parts and all worked flawlesly.

Changing numbers is easy and obvious when you take the gauge apart. It also show why so many cars have so extrordinary low km at age 30+...

Highly doubtful IMHO given that the 968 has undergone a significant transformation to become turbocharged.
