The .82 A/R is still less volume than factory 12cm^2 hotside from holset. I'm sure it would still spool ok and make some really decent top end.

I think it's a great option and removes a major restriction in the exhaust circuit.

Well, this just got interesting.

My #6 housing ended up being too damaged to use, and I was having my doubts about that hotside being able to flow my power goals efficiently (325-375 whp). I'm really focusing on finding a well-matched housing, if I'm going to go through all the hassle.

So...I bought this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/162247629837

Seller took $180! It's simply a smaller housing than you'll find on any factory HX35 - it ends up being a 0.63 a/r. That's a beautiful match I believe for a 2.5l. It will mean modifying the crossover and downpipe, but luckily a good friend of mine isn't scurred and has offered to knock it out.

good luck and let us know how it turns out!

i ended up buying a gently used LR Super 61 from Lart for my build.

Guys, give Tim a call at Tim's Turbos. I spoke to him on the phone for 20 minutes today and he is very familiar with 944s (he owns several). He CNC the hotsides Michael is talking about in house. They are blank .63 A/R T31 hotsides machined to fit the HX35 turbine and CHRA, with a 2.5" 4 bolt outlet. Tim can weld on 3" Vband if you like as well. He also CNC machines modified H1C compressor covers that fit the HX35, but have a 3" inlet/2" outlet like a T04E instead of the normal 4" inlet/2-7/8" outlet if packaging is a concern. The H1C covers are not machined for antisurge like the HX35 cover is, which he says improves spoolup.

Just putting this out there as I was really impressed with the time Tim took out of his day today to talk to me about all the different things he was cooking up in his shop, and since he is a fellow 951 guy who has cracked the code for Holset turbos I thought I'd make some remarks about it.

I'm way late to the party, but I can say for sure that Holset + KKK is possible, if maybe not as simple as we'd like. My turbo is an HY35 Compressor on an HX35 CHRA with a KKK replica #8 hot side housing machined to accept the HY35 turbine. Post #175 in my build thread shows it and then there are some pics showing the "adjustments" that were necessary to make it fit.

The results are very not bad though. I haven't dynoed it, but my butt-dyno is very impressed

Interesting report for the HX35's smaller brother. But, the idea of using a holset with the turbonetics replica hotside was never in question, since the "replica" hotside is actually a garrett hotside that "happens" to bolt to our exhaust. It's simply a T31 whose casting has been slightly modified to have k26 inlet and outlet flanges. Internally, it is still just a garrett housing.

What remains to be seen is if its possible to adapt the holset to fit a factory hotside. Please though, tell us more about the characteristics of the turbo?

In any case, my Tim's Turbos HX35/.63 T3 hotside is on its way to me, I'll post pics when it gets here!

Yes, sorry, I just re-read the thread and realized that the replica hotside wasn't the question. I didn't realize that it was actually a T31 hotside with K26 flanges though. Thanks for the info! I'll be honest, I wasn't the one to piece it together, Joshua (Rogue_Ant) and Dave (dnovak) get all the credit there. And, at the time that I got it, I was very aware of the finer details, but it's just been working without issue since then so I haven't really thought much about it in a while so some of that has gone fuzzy.

Anyway, as for characteristics, I'm using an MBC right now and, for some reason, the car insists on running fat under boost - but, even with those two things working against it, I'm very happy with the boost characteristics. I find the that the boost comes on much more abruptly than stock and it'll hit ~15psi by 3500rpm. It also holds as much boost as I'm willing to dial up all the way to redline.

For comparison, I have a buddy here who is running a Vitesse Stage 2 kit and I do find that his car is quicker to respond and feels faster, but his AFR's are pretty much perfect and he's using an EBC. I'm pretty sure that once I get the fuelling sorted out on my car, the comparison will be much closer.

Interesting thread. If the turbonetics replica turbine housing is a garrett t31 housing internally then what A/R is it? Also what A/R would the replica #10 be compared to the replica #8?

I'm planning on using an HX40 compressor wheel with a HX40/HX35 10 blade turbine. With I think the 12cm hotside housing I believe. It will probably be laggy but planning a 2.85l in the future.

Billet Compressor: 60 x 86mm
Turbine: 64 x 76mm

you will have clearance issues with the factory holset 12cm dual scroll hotside. You need the bolt on .63 T3 housing.

Quick Reply: HX35 / K26 hybrid, anyone done it?
