Default HX35 / K26 hybrid, anyone done it?

http://www.motorgeek.com/viewtopic.p...&view=previous

I was reading this, and the OP referenced that 951 guys are a fan (although I've searched many different ways and couldn't dig anything up). Audi guys are making big power on this setup.

Bueller?

It seems too good to be true. After having the hotside machined, it seems more or less bolt-on. I've already mocked up my HX35 and it fits up great with minor clearancing on the bottom of the intake manifold (ignoring the factory hotside, which would require major grinding).

I've looked at Garrett hotsides (a la Sid) and that also seems like a reasonable alternative, but would require T3 flanging unless you drop $400 just on a replica hotside before even machining it.

What's wrong with the standard turbine housing?

I'm curious to this as well. I happen to have a Turbonetics replica #8 housing sitting on my shelf. The internal scroll where it terminates and directs the gasses toward the turbine blades is 2-3 times larger than a real #8 housing.

For the HX35? Dimensions and spool time. The smallest standard hotside I can directly bolt up is a 12cm2, which internet chatter estimates 0.89 a/r. It would require work on the downpipe and crossover, not to mention grinding for clearance.

If people have made big power on this combo, I'm interested. I plan on giving it a shot regardless.

Gotcha. Makes senese.
There's no other housings that just bolt straight up to it?

How do you know machining a #6 housing from a k26/6 will actually match up? Are both turbos centres and lengths the same?

It requires machining, but nothing ridiculous. Check out the URL in the original post. It'll look a little goofy with that huge coldside and #6 hotside but the numbers are there...

Edit: just got an extra #6 hotside, guess I'll be the guinea pig.

Just had a look.

My concerns are
1 - when being machined out, will the turbine have the same clearance all around the blades for maximum efficiency? Closer the better, but not just at the end but the whole blade, radius of the inside of the housing. (hard to explain, hopefully you'll understand me)

2 - How much back pressure will it make?

Any luck with this? I'm trying to determine how to move forward in build. Looking at this or a Precision 5858.

Contact Blown944 (Sid) he would know what you would need for a HX35 to work. I think you can use the 8# housing with some grinding or something. I am looking to use a hx35 or hx35/40

Lets not all forget it isnt just about making the hotside fit the center section. The HX35 turbine is HUGE, much larger than even a turbo S turbine. It's about the same size as a garrett stage 5 in terms of height and diameter. Fitting one into a factory k26 hotside would require lots of cutting. It would probably work with a replica housing made for a stage 5 wheel, but unfortunately most are stage 3. Many moons ago I had a replica #8 hotside machined for a stage 3 wheel, I sold it because I couldnt find anyone willing to machine it to fit the hx35 turbine wheel. I'm sort of kicking myself now...

agreed... It is documented to work with the replica housing. Just interested to see how the OP is making out and what kind of results were seen if any

Are there any new production replica housings available? I'd be interested in ordering one cut for a garrett stage 5 wheel if such a thing existed.

Thanks Hinton!! That is the component everyone who wants a bolt on HX35 needs. Are they actually available though? Show's price as 0 on the website I checked, assuming that means not in stock or not in production?

Edit: Available and in stock here for 228 + free shipping!
