Default Does anyone have 1/4 mile drag times.

I have been to the drags strip many times and most times end in failure.I have broken an Axel shaft on 2 occasions.Blew a turbo up and also have lost to cars with less horsepower and torque because the 951's have no way to jump out of the hole.Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and if you did anything about it.All you people who have this horsepower and say you can beat vipers probably never raced one on a 1/4 mile drag strip because I got beat.if we are going at 20 mph and then hit it,its a different story.Any thoughts.

All the people that have all this horsepower know better than to drag race vipers. You said it yourself... if you're going 20 it's fine. So don't race from a stop.

"I keep blowing up my car trying to drag race." Yep, that's what happens. Not much else to say about it.

This issue has been argue so many times on this forum. Take advantage of the archives and do a search on drag racing. 951 are not suited for drag racing, you will end up with a lot of broken axles, burned clutches and other stuff, 951 are hard to take fast off the line, you could but it requires practice to master a fast take off.
But on track racing that's were 951's shine. For they are indeed one of the best track vehicles of all times, also one of the most underrated.

I had a race with a GMC Typhoon from a stand still, it wasn't pretty. By the time my car actually boosted the race was over, although I did start to catch him in the end. Whenever I'm at a stop light I pretend not to race just so I get a little momentum then it's a different story. Reno

Everybody say it with me:
"The 944 is not a drag strip car".
Billgot, if you want to go fast in a straight line (and there's nothing wrong with that) I'd suggest you buy an older camaro Z28 and tweak the engine a bit.
951s can't beat Z28s on dragstrips (unless they're modified 951s). 951s can beat Z28s on race tracks, easily.

If you want to do 1/4 mile runs, put in a Grand National V8 like the guy that I know in town did

Then again, you won't be beating anyone on a twisty track in that get up.

I am tired of the "these are not drag cars" jazz. I like to drag, so do my friends, I mod my car for more straight line speed, while enjoying the coming out of corners. These cars can go fast in straight lines, if you do cv's or axels, buy stronger race ones, if you blow your clutch, buy a race one. Everyone has these issues while draging. I have launch control in my car via the link. Launches will be a problem of the past soon enough...

NZ951, have you gone to a DE or proper road course? This may sound like a gross generalisation, but all the Drag racer guys I've talked to in town here, have never done a DE or gone on a Road Track. Only drags.

If only they knew what they were missing...

But the point remains, Drag racing is fun and all, but when was the last time you saw a funny car at Laguna Seca??? Uhh never.. It's not a road car! Likewise, the 944t is not a drag car!

If I wanted to get into Drag racing, a mustang or GN or some other muscle car that is cheaper and easier to change the clutch on, and will do better for the amount of money you spend! Taking a 944T to the strip and getting spanked just makes it look bad in front of everyone! Not what we want!!!

But it does not get spanked. I have done some fun days at Ruapuna Raceway, nothing serious. Yes I love the turny bits. That is where we rule. But we can go fast straight. Yes it takes time and experience, by fast I mean late 11's early 12's. This is suitably fast for a street going car...

No the 944 Turbo is not the best dragstrip car ever buildt, but i tried once in Sweden ,and i think the time speeks for itself.
Next year i hope for a 12sec run.
