Default Geba water pump quality ?

Hi, I ordered a Geba water pump for my 951 from autopartsway. The machined part of the pump had some kind of dent/scraches so I sent it back and ordered a new one. When I received it, I found out that they shipped the same exact water pump with the same exact scratch at the same spot with a tag inside the box that says "DAMAGED" Autopartsway had UPS pick up that water pump. I ordered a third time last Friday and the box was on my door step today when I got home. The package was destroyed aswell has the manifacturer box, the water pump have two 1/16 deep dent on the machined part again. What the hell ??

Is this common that these pumps have this kind of damage ? Will the gasket seal the dents anyway ?

Ah, didn't notice a Canadian address. Geba and Laso are tops in my book, I believe both have a 2 year warranty.

I don't drive my 951 more than 1000 miles a year, so hopefully my laso wp that I installed last spring will be good for a while.

As for your original question, I would definitely be concerned about any machined end damage and potential leaks that might occur from this. I wouldn't install that wp on my car.

I would send the part back for a full refund, they can't refuse a refund in Canada especially when sending defective parts. Sounds like they keep sending you back the same pump. I wouldn't give autopartsway any business.

Your still better off to order the thing from Zims as suggested. Places like autopartsway are not a business that helps support the Porsche community to me.

I've had amazing luck ordering from my local dealership. They have a remanufactured water pump kit for ~$170 that includes literally everything with the sole exception of the shim for the thermostat. All brand new from Porsche, includes 2 year parts warranty and new mounting hardware.

Agreed with Gruhsy. Just bite the bullet and get a new one from Zims. It's not worth saving a bit on a rebuilt pump.

The scrathes I'm speaking of are the ones on the lower left side. Those are about 1/32" deep.

As long as the surface is still flat (no dings causing "high spots" or burrs sticking up that would prevent a good seal)...I'd run that pictured pump on my car. The gasket can be forgiving...and maybe some grey permatex will help it out.

But if I have a problem I can have a new one on in about 3 hours...can you? If not, maybe return it for better peace of mind.

Looks like it should be okay. I'd be concerned if there was any one large scratch from the inside to the outside - a leak path.

Lots of gasket seating surface around these little pockets.

Alright thank you! I think I'll give it a shot. Should I put permatex on both side or only water pump side ?

I wouldn't bother with it on this pump.

The 1989 water pump I pulled off my 1982 engine had Permatex or something like it on both sides of the gasket, FWIW.
