There can't be many of these original sets left now, does the paperwork specify what bore clearance to run them at ?

I have about 25k miles on the exact same pistons now (at 500+ hp). They are beefy original style pistons and probably the lowest risk piston you can use to build a 3 liter turbo. I'd buy them but I have a spare set just in case.

Hi, as per the paperwork/invoice, they are 104.5 1st oversize set.

Yep those are the KIND! I have about 7500 miles on my set. You need a machine shop that is very experienced at setting these up. NO learning on your dime.

Partly why I asked if Mahle had recommended what clearance to run, do they have similar expansion rates to the original pistons that run very tight clearances ?

I remember that I had to call Mahle directly for the spec. Yes, it's extremely tight and I was surprised to say the least. I gave the spec to my machine shop and he didn't bat an eye. They are very experienced with Alusil work.

My machine shop which is acknowledged as the only Alusil specialist in my country coughs when he is told about the factory spec and always choses a "slightly looser" clearance... Got 41k miles on the same pistons, and counting.

Stock clearance works well on 100% stock engines.

I thought the 968 control arms are not rebuildable?

That is incorrect. They are rebuildable, just an a DIY like 951 ball joints. They are pressed in.
