Default '89 951 on eBay. 300 HP?

Interesting car on eBay (no relation to the seller):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/262057795002

The listing claims this to be an '89 Turbo tuned by the factory to 300 HP Turbo Cup specifications. My understanding is that Porsche never released a road car tuned to 300 HP because it wouldn't meet emissions and noise regulations. That said, this appears to have been made specifically for a Porsche executive team member.

What do you guys think? Is this a 300 HP car, or is it a standard 247 HP car from an uninformed broker trying to maximize profit?

Its hard to say what factory did or did not do. If they didn't release 300hp turbos officially, there are still friendships, connections, sonderwunsch program and similar. Im sure people close to cup racing and factory could get what they wanted, especially since this was not a big deal to upgrade.

I thought I read someplace that the Turbo Cup race cars put out 305 HP, so it's possible.

The eBay ad and description look legitimate to me.

From my understanding, the factory racing dept provided 3 different tunes to turbo cup racers (qualifying, sprint, and endurance). Quite likely this car has one of the turbo cup DME/KLR sets from the factory.

I Thought the Cup cars had different mirrors, Recaro drivers seat, backseat delete, AC delete sound delete and a Roll bar among many other items that are harder to spot from an ebay add like frame rail braces and AUR tranny

... and it is sold! Looks to be a lovely car. Cheaper than some silver roses that sold recently and with some very interesting heritage.

And it's back up, still claiming to be a Cup Car for the road. Now featuring the stock rubber spoiler on the rear (previous listing featured a 90+ 951 / 968 bridge spoiler installed).

There's an unmet starting bid of $36.5K.

Those photos all look like they are from the advertising catalog, other than the engine photo. I call BS. He should put the window sticker up, to prove it.

VIN is WP0AA2956KN151104. Without any documentation from Porsche, it's hard to believe this is anything more than a standard '89 Turbo - albeit a very nice one with interesting history.

Too many grammar and spelling errors in the description to take seriously!

Definitely not a cup/motorsport variant.

I wish sellers like this could be charged with Fraud.
