I tried to plug weld the patch to make it look kind of like the factory spot welds, but it only looked ok. In hindsight, if I were doing it again, I think I'd probably just pop rivet the patch on.

Spot welding that AOS heat shield would be the best way. Or tig welding would be my next choice. Mig welding that small is hard and maybe a bit ugly in the end. Call up some shops in your area to see if you anyone has a spot welder you could use for ten minutes.

The key is getting the patch piece cut and bent to fit up nicely, especially if you're going to TIG it. Those 3 in 1 press brakes work wonders on stuff like this (and there's still a few shopping days before Christmas).

Though pop rivets probably are ideal for this...

Don't think this will work. Here is a shot with the heat shield off. Down pipe is rotated as far away from the aos as I could make it. This leaves a few mm near the aos

Not sure what the right course of action is. It's almost like the turbo is pointed at the aos vs a little to the right of it

hmmm... Either the turbo is pointed in the wrong direction (from the mount?), or the downpipe needs adjustment? Who made the downpipe? Would it clear better if you cut a wedge out of the downpipe or put the flange on at a different angle?

Update:

After a few months of having a good friend of mine finish up the fab (including a custom downpipe and exhaust) she fired up tonight. Should be taking her to the track this weekend for an initial shakedown. Can't wait!!

My car is having the final touches put on it now, so I will not be able to play with you this weekend. I plan on stopping by though.

Sounds like you will not be going to TWS this weekend. You have another track picked out.

Just got my car back from paint earlier this week and will get it back from the tuner tomorrow.

Are you keeping the same paint scheme?

My backup plan is to go to Harris hill. Since I'm a member I'll have free reign of the track. Easier for a test and tune anyways.

I'm planning on re painting the car. I have a scheme picked out. Very "look at me! I'm in a race car" type livery

I'm very much hoping that the engine makes me have to put on a wide body

What were engine specs and turbo? Assuming 91 octane?
