THat's a cool tester thing.
The alcohol/water mix and the gas gets displaced to the top?
http://www.quickfueltechnology.com/s...test-tube.html
AS far as mixture, at least for my interests, I understand the blends vary a lot but as long as it works out to say...95 or better effective octane it will work for me.
Our 91 here is really more like 90 and that's the best you can get at the pump.
There are a handful of 100 octane pumps but they are getting fewer and fewer each year...but E85 is more available. Trip planning required I suppose.

I fill up at three different stations/vendors and have never had an issue. A lot of the Subi/Evo guys run E85 and I hadn't really heard of an issue either. I've never heard of anyone mixing their own gas...

Here is the federal website for alternative fuels, E85
http://www.afdc.energy.gov/fuels/eth
First line:
E85 is a term that refers to high-level ethanol-gasoline blends containing 51%-83% ethanol, depending on geography and season (see Fuel Properties and E85 Specification).
If you do not drive your car for 3 or 4 weeks at a time be aware of corrosion in your injectors as they are the most sensitive, due to the additional entrained/absorbed water in the system.

My car is a dedicated track car, I would have used E98 and mixed it with a 96 or 98 octane fuel to achieve E85.

No offense at all but this stuff is just not reality. Again, we have been doing this for YEARS! I had a PHD at the track years ago lecture me about corrosion and a whole list of potential issues. I have now been running this stuff for several years and had no issues. I have left E85 in the car over the Winter, no injector issues. I have not seen large swings in the mixture, I run E85 year around, from multiple sources.

As a matter of fact it came from my tuner D3 Performance Engineering. Who also have years of experience, one of their specialties is tuning alcohol tuned cars.
