Default Gt3582 install

Well I decided to bite the bullet and go for a new turbo on my 3 liter

Inspired by Shawns success and McLarenos walkthrough

This is a Garrett Ni resist 0.83 housing

I went with the Broadfoot mount which has a few issues sorry to say first it didn't clear the steering shaft so I had to space it up and out on the motor with 4 millimeter washers second the drain was quite an improvisation basically I use McLarenos drain setup with some mods

But this I'm hoping this is the real coup de Gras I installed a slip joint on the crossover hopefully eliminating that nightmare of fighting with the crossover and manifold

Oh wow. How well does a slip joint seal? It seems like an area where you really wouldn't want any leaks.

Agreed!

I gave this a lot of thought. No way was I going to spend all the money on a new turbo install without coming up with some kind of solution to the crossover nightmare.

Last time I R&Red that thing I had to take everything loose including the manifolds and pull it back together with the bolts a little at a time. Thing is it's a crapshoot every time, it's always different. I could have gone V band like the Lindsey 2 piece, but you're still having to pull everything back in with bolts.

With this at least I have some vertical and radial wiggle room.

Yep, it's still unproven to me if there will be an adequate seal. But this I feel a slip joint has a good chance of success.

I can always just weld the whole thing back up UGH!. I probably have 20 hrs. in fitting all this together. Man I hope it works.

Actually doesn't SFR use slip joints on the stage 2 headers?

What about just using a flex pipe?

I hope to have that turbo running next year myself. Pretty sure I'm getting slip joints on SFR stage II headers. SFR is doing all the hard work for me though. Looks good!

Good luck and keep the updates coming. I'm updating my turbo now with a bigger KKK style hot side, but watching with great interest and looking for inspiration to go this route on the next motor...
