Wow the car looks great Tom. Did you do a clear bra for the front? Now it's time to cringe eact time you're n the road. If there's a truck in front of you ake sure there's several cars shielding you. lol.

Clear bra goes on this week. You're right about the anxiety -- I was fairly carefree about driving it when the front was all chipped up. Now I'm pretty much keeping it off the road until the clear bra goes on. The fenders are a little darker than the doors now, which is starting to bug me just enough to probably get the doors done sooner rather than later.... Should have just done it all at once for sure. Live and learn though.

"worth it" is such a subjective term.... Until these cars appreciate like the 911's, it's hard to justify the cost of a quality strip-down full repaint from a financial perspective. I plan to keep this car for a long long time, so it would be "worth" it to me. I cringe at taped paint lines around weather stripping, etc. -- and suspect most car guys so -- so would personally avoid that at all costs. If you take cues from the 356/911 crowd, plenty of those had cheap-o paint jobs before their values skyrocketed, and I think the cars with worn original paint were easier to sell and worth more than cars with cheap paint jobs. I'd imagine the same will be true for our cars if the current upward value trend continues...
Things left on the car for practical reasons (in case it rains between now and paint, that are quick/easy to remove at paint time) were the hatch, sunroof and quarter windows. All the lights, other rubber, bumper, valence etc came off. I left the stone guards on as I didn't have a heat gun and the paint guy will have better tools for that.
I had mine done a few years ago and it came out pretty well. Nowhere near perfect, but a lot better than the faded brown it was, and it was all one color . With that in mind I'd recommend pulling anything that would need a tape line otherwise, while leaving as much in place as you can so the color is evenly applied (specifically the headlight covers, header, fenders, hood, and front bumper cover) as mine were done separately and you can see the paint differences.

+1 on above! I hate signs of masking. I used the expensive "fuzzy edge" tape on my door jambs, my windshield was cracked, so I yanked the trim strip off and masked the glass. All of the stone guards were removed (pain) using an eraser wheel. It would take a very trained eye to find signs of masking.
Tip of the day: After painting the header panel, use fineline tape and paint the upper mounting flange satin black, and install using new black screws. Every time I open the hood I enjoy seeing that little detail...

+27 Tom!! Car looks like it's just rolled off the factory floor. Must be fun on those original tyre sizes with that 3ltr high comp motor under the hood!
