I thought this was going to be a "merry Christmas - 10% off for rennlist members" type of thread. I was wrong

Lart,

I know you're in this market everyday, but do you have proof of prices going up? I'm just not seeing it with what seems like a continuous endless supply of sub $10k 951s on craigslist...

They are going up for sure - there aren't many Turbos left on CL around here, and they are rising in places like Panorama (PCA) and etc. The 944 Turbo was king of the hill in 1988 and 1989. To people in high school and college at that time, it was the best thing on the road. Those folks turning mid forties and fifties over the next few years. Age brings nostalgia, nostalgia buys that car you always wanted.

The other aspect I hinted on is supply. There are not many nice turbos left. The track has eaten many, others have been burned to a crisp with old fuel lines, lart eats four good ones a week, and another group are really poor as the owners could't afford to properly keep them up.

Keep in mind that the lion's share of "good" 951s are on this board. Don't give yours up for cheap (or expect others to do so), in the spirit of community. Get the top price you can get, if you have that luxury.

Luis has not slain a single one.

He has gratefully rescued their organs from a sure death!

Merry Christmas to you too Brother.

This is me - but by 89 I was in college. I remember getting an issue of one of the car mags that had a foldout cutaway drawing of the 300 Z twin turbo, and was tempted for a hot second, but went back to my high school sweetheart in the end. Finally got mine last summer.

But I don't expect a high ROI. I will gauge the value based on smiles per mile.

And climbing fast. Look for 951s to follow air cooled 911s in the stupid price wars.

I don't think 951s will ever reach the stupid heights that early 911 prices have climbed to. As much as we all love the 951, is isn't and never will be as universally revered as the 911.

And I say thank goodness, because that craziness has priced many early 911s enthusiasts right out of the market, including myself (and I work on the damn things for a living!). There are too many garage queens, and too many people buying early 911s for the wrong reasons. Existing owners are making too many decisions about their cars based on the current market.

The 951 is, however, a wonderful car, and the above poster's "king of the hill" comment is spot on. Perusing sites like bringatrailer.com, it is clear that a number of the '80s/early '90s cult/hero cars are appreciating. This is good news for those of us who already own them, and it will mean that more and more of the rough examples out there will be rescued and brought up to snuff.

Or Lart will part all of them out!

I am quite confident that if you ask Luis for a CHRISTMAS discount, he will oblige.

Thanks, it's a fun little ride. Like many other old cars, 2002 prices are creeping up so I'm glad that I snatched mine up last year for a good deal.

It is interesting to have 2 old cars that need lots of attention share daily driving duties, but it is worth it since they are much more exciting than most modern cars.
