Hi Patrick,
Short answer is: No experience with these heads.
Just having a laugh!

anybody have dimensions (width/height) of 968 intake ports?
how much bigger are they vs the S/S2?

I've got an email from Duke saying the 968 inlet port is 56x44mm. Maybe check with him.

Does the head your going to take possession of have turbo handling exhaust valves? Looks nice! Check out Michael mounts has a few billet camshaft blanks left for sale and 928 Motorsports light weight cam followers, and their stronger cam chain. It you haven't already.

Spencer, I know you have a 16V intake gasket laying around. The 968 intake ports match the size of the gasket perfectly. The difference between the S2 and 968 ports is pretty substantial, IIRC it's about 3mm in every direction.

The reason I was asking, was to see if I could use the flange you sent me...but the regular 944 16v gasket barely works on the 928 head as-is, so the 968 ports are entirely too big.

So I will have to wait for your modified flange, or just make one by hand

Sean said he was going to take the 928 head to get it measured by the faro arm soon (no idea what "soon" means but he's usually pretty timely) to get precise measurements for the ports. Sean and I have discussed the flange file I have and I think it's going to need work regardless to be viable for use. Sean has offered to take that project on due to his easy access to CAD software and his experience as an automotive engineer. So at this point, it's a whole bunch of "wait and see".

Now I understand why I had to remove so much material to port match my manifold which at the time I didnt understand, I used a 968 manifold as a donor when building my manifold for the S2 engine. Was much larger all around.

thanks

Nowadays it makes much more sense just to make a custom manifold from scratch. My friend Pieter made CNC intake for 968 that is put into 924, and got a very nice gains with stock engine and just the intake swap.
Examples (on Dynapack): 209whp with Motronic, 98octane gas, 221whp with VEMS+98, 228whp with VEMS+E85 and 254whp with VEMS+intake+E85.

It does not have to be fully CNC machined intake, just have the flange water or laser cut and weld on the injector bungs, use aluminium piping for runners, buy trumpets/stacks or press them yourself on a lathe and make a plenum and then have it all welded. Requires a bit of diy skills but is nothing out of ordinary. some basic rules apply, there are plenty of literature on the subject. Why settle with some half-a$$ things like speedforce (early ones did not even have velocity stacks inside iirc?).

He is your friend as well? I saw the intake in person when i visited his shop. Very skilled tuner! He designed the intake himself and had a friend who just bought a new 5-axis CNC mill it for him.
However.. The price for this intake is not something that most people can/want to buy..

Yes, I have known Pieter for years

Regarding cost, I also explained the cheaper version that is by far not that expensive.

I went to see Tim at SFR last weekend, and he seemed pretty disinterested/tired of working on 944 stuff.

So I agree..DIY is the better route, if you can spare the time to make it.

That's a really nice intake. We get our flanges done locally by a friend of Paul's. Here's a good example of what you mean by doing it a bit cheaper than above. 4th pic showing 2nd locally made intake with their flange. Of course you can also cut the stock flange off and weld onto that if the ports are radically modified.

Ideally I'd like to go to another guy not so far away. He does the whole thing from Throttle body, plenum, runners, and fuel rail. I'd say this would make your friend Pieter's price cheap by comparison.
