Endurance Racing
Just a bit on the opposite end of the racing spectrum from the time attack that Patrick and Gustaf do, I've been using my 951 engined 968 for endurance racing.
We did a 1 hour, 2 hour and 8 hour endurance races recently. Unfortunately, we didn't do very well in the 8 Hour this year as we lost an hour fixing a broken strut. The welds failed on a Moton strut, who expects that?
But the engine didn't give any trouble. The engine is just an amalgamation of several stock junk yard motors but it does have the Vitesse Stg3 kit and the Michael Mount rod bearing mod.
Here are some pics and video from the 8 hour in Portland Oregon.
LeMans Start:
Limping to the paddock with a broken strut and flat tire:
Brake and exhaust glow:
The start:
The end:

Car looks awesome....
Watched the first 35 mins and looks like you were doing great.
Man those 2 911's that passed you were flying Were those GT3's
My nephew just ran at the Glen last weekend in the same format
with a BMW spec E30 racer
They won their class !! He was very stoked.
What kind of boost are you running when racing ?
Regards
Ed

Great stuff Eric and congratulations!! Wow, 8 hours with a Le Mans start. I can't imagine running for that long. How many drivers? Looks like you guys were right up front after qualifying? Talk about slammed!! Must have been quite the drive back to the pits when that happened. Excellent pics!

The strut breaks at the end of the first video. Not a fun drive back to the paddock, but lucky to have had very little other damage. We ran boost at ~14psi for longevity's sake.
Patrick - We had 3 drivers for the 8 hour. The starting grid is random as it is based on where your pit stall is instead of speed. It ends up not mattering at all in a long race.

Erik, car looks nicely sorted...and driver appears calm and smooth.
Are you running in a specific class? Is this a 2.5, 2.8, or 3.0? K26, K27, or? I saw you said you kept manifold pressure at 14lbs for longevity.
Your car looks very composed/flat through the esses. What springs/dampers/sways are you running? M030 brakes? What does your car weigh?
Well done.

For these enduro races the car is running in an "open" class where the only real limit is the budget. So I'm pretty limited.
The engine is a 2.5 with a Vitesse Stage 3 turbo, maf, piggy back, etc.
Suspension is Moton Clubsport shocks, 700# front/1050# rear, Tarrett front sway bar, 968 M030 rear bar. 993TT Big Red front brakes, stock rears. 18x10 wheels front and rear. For the last race they were shod with 285/645-18 Continental Rolex GT slicks, hard ones. The car weighs about 2675lbs with no gas and no driver.

Surprised how quickly you passed other cars [as if they were standing still] with only a 2.5L motor. And you were passed by only two cars...the GT3 and the Spyder.
Again, well done.

Erik, was it the weld of the mounting flange [to the spindle] that failed?
I'm surprised you didn't incur more damage during your "off" near T7/T8. Nothing else had to be repaired after installing a replacement...very lucky.
What type of motor/gearbox mounts do you use?
