Motor from a Buick Grand National. Built right, these motors are reliable, easy to modify, and can take a beating. I had one for 6 months just for straight line fun in the late 80's. Bought it cheap, sold it for a profit!

JFC over a megawatt of power to the wheels... and STILL 600 lb-ft at 5.8k! That's burly..

NEW** In Crate 1987 Buick GN Motor

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello, I have a brand new never ran 1987 Grand National Motor in the crate just as it rolled off the assembly line at GM. This is a complete drop in with all electronics, injectors, turbo and exhaust installed on motor. Again this has never been ran, it has been in storage since aquired form GM in 1987. you will not be disappointed this is the real deal! This is probably one of a kind. I would keep this but I am just out of room and could use the money!!!!

Asking $5,500 or best offer!! If you are interested please give me a call and make an offer!!

Call Dave at 262-573-6298 with questions. I am willing to ship!

Many other crate options...GM sucks, but this motor utilized their best engineering talent. Weird knowing there were FWD Caddy's and PIECE OF CRAP Olds diesel motors built from gas blocks! YIKES

This would make a great track motor. These engines can be built towards track vs drag. Dang, this dyno chart makes me want one of these! This is a dyno from a Buick GN V6! Look at the TQ at 3K! 951 Axle breaker

3 rotor 20b all the way.... If you can get it built right. Light and mean.

20b would be one of few available engines that is less reliable than a 951 engine.

I disagree, they historically had Apex seal issues that exposed themselves via long term wear related issues, they do not suffer catastrophic failure under high load such as would be experienced for a race engine. In addition, modern materials and manufacturing have basically eliminated the apex seal issue. A 20B weights basically nothing, though the 8k rpm rev limit would be a detriment. Even so limited think a 20BT would have absolutely zero issues making 800 hp, they are just such nasty motors, and simple to work on too.

There was a guy on here that had a Buick GN motor in his 944 a while back. I wonder if he's still around.

Didnt that car have the turbo stuck somewhere crazy, like either up in the passenger side foot well or in the headlight recess?

I don't recall where the turbo sat, but I remember the engine looked like it was crammed way in the back of the compartment. I definitely remember the words "thinking outside the box" coming to mind when looking at it.

that 6-rotor has got to be retarded fast.
a 13B renesis is a fast motor, 230+hp...x3? even in stock trim that motors got to be at least 650hp til 9000+rpm.

starting to look like one of those pre-war monster inline motors.

Not too far off, if memory serves that 6 rotor "only" made ~760 horse on an engine dyno, in no where near stock trim. There is a pretty serious diminishing returns curve associated with more rotors. 3 rotors turbo, maybe 4 N/A seems to about do it since a built N/A 26b can do very similar numbers to that 6 rotor, and a turbo 3 rotor can do a lot more, with much more reliability.

There are very few talented rotary engine builders in the world. These motors are awesome HP capable engines, but not reliable in terms of piston driven motors. If the rotary motors were kept at 3 - 4K like those used in aircraft, you'd likely enjoy flying your homebuilt for many years.

The TT RX7 sold well, but Mazda couldn't continue to honor the warranty on the blown Wankel design. The apex seals require a complete tear down. This isn't a ring job with a hone.

Mazda stopped R&D on the 16x. Fuel economy mandates caused this high dollar effort be forfeited.

I liked the Rotary Turbo RX7 cars. The issue was longevity, lack of talented engine builders, etc.

Used at prop aircraft RPM ranges, the rotary engine is a keen alternative.
