"Upgrading" from a GTX turbo? Hmmm I'm veeery sceptical From what I've seen of the Precision internal parts they cannot be compared to a GT/GTX turbo. And I won't go over 750 hp so I will stay with this turbo

Thom, Eric has a big bore motor in the works but I am of the opinion that while you could run that turbo easily enough, I would opt for a bit smaller for a 3Lt road car. Maybe the GT3076 or GTX3076. You would know more than me but I think the 'X' series turbos seem to want to be boosted quite high. I'd like to try my old GT3076.82 on a 3Lt motor.

Ah ok, a GTX35 should be ok then.
I have been back in the ghetto of mid range debauchery... errr I mean been running the stock intake again since last week end (the short intake is momentarily needed for some "side project"...) and intend to run 1.5 bar again on the GTX3076R 1.06. Curious to see if I start to blow the HG like you do.

Keep me in the loop on your findings. We are picking up my block tomorrow after the O ringing. Going to have to wait until next week for the new gasket. Really wonder what the GTX35 will be like at 1.8 bar...(read eek...car is pretty fast already at 1.3bar !)

I believe that increasing boost without improving head flow will only put further strain on the short block. You may solve the hg issue on the medium term but over the long term you may damage something else.
I ran 1.6 bar the other day and even if I got no knock thanks to the opened up cam I could still feel a boost level past which the overall breathing ability of the engine decreased, which I'm pretty sure is caused by the flow limits of the head and/or stock headers.
Our respective set ups are I think comparable, even if yours sits of course on a higher level, so I would suggest not going too wild too early with the boost...

No, we will be very careful. I'm sure you're right re the stock inlet. We will look at what it looks like on the data. We'd only consider running higher boost down the straight in a bigger event. No use on short tighter tracks.
Be interested when Gustaf runs up a bit more boost on his car though??

The GTX3582R is really a 750 hp capable turbo and too big for most applications. But with a big displacement engine in a race car that mostly runs between 4500-7500 rpm it's a very good choice.
Patrick I wouldn't say it seems to like higher boost better than e.g. the GT3582R. But given it's a "larger" turbo it's more efficient at higher flow (e.g. higher boost) than the GT so it can feel that way.

Finally got the RL App back up and running. Not sure what happened but have not been able to log on for quite a while. My engine will be 3.3L minimum, but hopefully 3.5L. However, I am not looking for a screamer. I will be perfectly happy shifting at 6-6.5K. Looking more for down low torque, which I feel I will have more than enough of. This will not be a track car, just a obnoxiously fast daily driver. Well, if it holds together. Any opinions on which compressor housing to use?

That's a big motor But to determine turbo size I would also take desired maximum boost, head, camshaft, headers and intake into consideration on top of max rpm. To use the GTX3582R with a smaller compressor housing would seem a bit counter productive to me. I would run a smaller turbo and likely have a quicker car.
