Default How bad is this transmission leak?

Hey guys

I'm not much of a wrencher, but can see I have a problem here. Question is: how bad? Looks like transmission fluid coming out of the seals where the axel meets the transmission on the right rear? Or maybe out of these (what looks like) cooling lines? Not sure which part is doing what, but it's awfully wet after a 1 hr drive. No real dripping that I could see, just a slow spread on the surface. No noticeable problems when driving it (not in the shifting or clutch engagement), but guessing I should have the fluid level checked. (Was going to drive it 350 miles to Maine in the next few days, but I'm guessing that's a bad idea if I don't make sure fluid level is good first.) Car is an '86 951 with 155k miles. Original transmission, yes. Clutch re-done at 25k (factory recall, I think), but no slipping. Open to any & all thoughts. Thx.

There is an o ring on the cooler hose, its a common leak source.

Thx, will throw that theory @ my mechanic tomorrow. Would you say this looks pretty severe? As in there might not be much fluid left inside?

easy fix...clean area, drain, remove bolts, pull cooler line from case, slip on new (oil coated) o-ring, re-install cooler line, fill with Swepco 201 & drive happy.

You need to down load a catalog. Porsche has them available.

Thx all! For now, I visited a mechanic, they said it's not dire. But, it was pretty low, so we drained it and put new oil in. Old oil was still pretty clean, so no perceivable damage. Will get the O-ring fixed soon.

So, after I got it to another mechanic, it was determined that there was NO O-ring in place at all, hence the massive draining. After we filled it up with 6 pints of transmission oil, one day later (and a 350 mile drive), it was down 4 pints, so it was really draining fast. The O-ring must have just disintegrated and fallen out. We put a new one in and now it's holding just fine. Crazy, but yeah, guess that it might have been the original O-ring, and after 28 yrs, yep, it failed.
