Not sure about this particular product, but a few of the "purple" cleaners out there will discolor or etch some of the metals in your engine bay.

Only if you let the parts sit in it. Ive only had it happen after leaving the parts overnight or longer, which doesnt help clean it anyway. Purple cleaners work better with scrubbing and hot water, the hot water really helps.

The purple stuff ****s all over Simple Green for cleaning power, at least the purple stuff I use called Purple Power. Simple Green is pretty pathetic in comparison.

And this is the product I use for removing grease http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005ZURLCA

I've never seen anything like it. You can use it for your engine bay... I use it to clean the floors, tools, engines, parts, carpets, grease marks left in the interior, I've cleaned leather with it.... If you presoak concrete, it'll remove oil stains. You need to follow the dilution instructions.

If you really want to get it clean, rent a steam cleaner and you don't need any degreaser. With the engine out a steam cleaner will get everything off quickly. You might also try calling a mobile guy with a steam cleaner. Yes, it might cost $150-200 but you will be happy.

I also had good luck with my personal pressure washer hooked up to my hot water heater on the hottest setting two hours prior. I simultaneously siphoned the ZEP commercial degreaser mentioned above with one of the lighter fan nozzles. I would not use the pin point nozzle as it might actually strip the paint off.
Note: You need a garden hose rated for hot water, which is usually the red silicone/rubber type, in other words expensive.
