So I'm hoping with a full suspension rebuild and the Kw's she is going to be transformed. I've also looked into having a quick rack made but the cost was horrendously high, so that was a no go. Would you run 10's front and rear? That would make tyre's easier to match.

How's thing's with you, are you not running your car now? I know you had problems with the engine and that's the last I'd heard having not been visiting the site. I did see the Porsche RP968 had done well again,
that thing looks amazing. It would be nice to come out sometime to World Time Attack and maybe Bathurst.

About a quick rack. A friend of mine here in Sweden developed a bolt on ps rack for the 944/968 with 2,1 turns lock to lock. I have it on my 968 Turbo S replica and it is silly the defference to the stock steering! Best upgrade I have done.
Shoot him an e-mail and see if he might do more info@sanden.nu

Well glad you hung onto it Tim. I'm sure when you have it sorted you will be well chuffed.
I ran 10's x 18's all round for both road and track back in 2010. Went well. Car finished with 11.5's all round and it was never an issue of balance. Was one less thing to think about. For a road car you can run a little stagger in my opinion but there's no harm in going square.

Tim,
what are you doing for oil cooling?
I'd be interested in oil cooler size, location etc.

I'm using the std oil cooler in it's original position.

Tim,

I have absolutely loved following this build and am in awe of your skills.

I'm currently trying to assemble a 2.5 16v turbo build (with significantly lower horsepower goals than you) and had a question. Way back in post #1, you mentioned exhaust valves that were designed to handle the extra heat.

Would you share a bit of detail on what you did/where you sourced them, please? Also, did you do anything special with valve springs when assembling your head?

Thanks in advance. Keep the updates comming!

Malcolm

Call Ferrea for valves. They make them custom for around $63ea last time I checked three years ago.
Tim, more on the brakes? They’re super nice.

I'm aware of Ferrea, thanks.. Already reached out to them for current pricing.

However, since Tim has done so many things in his own way, I was wondering if he had gone in a different direction in this area as well. And $63/valve x 8 valves is getting up there... that is close to half of a turbo, or a good chunk of a suspension. If there are alternatives, I'd like to know.

I'm also still curious about how Tim's motor manages 8000 rpm, and if custom valve springs were required.

contact the user above, ptuomov, about exhaust valve options.

he's got a 900+hp 928 S4 with twin turbos, probably the greatest "stock" build in rennlist history.

My opinion is that the original normally aspirated 928 and probably 944/968 4-valve head stock exhaust valves from the 1980’s are great and don’t need anything else other than a good, wide valve seat and more seated spring load to work well. It’s just an opinion, though.

Thank you, Ptuomov!

Apologies. Can you elaborate on what you mean by "more seated spring load"?

thanks!

I’m not the authority by any means, but there are really two motivations going on here. First, you want to make the exhaust valve seat contact area wider when you add a turbo because you need to move more heat out of the valve. The valve seat needs a given pressure to work well, so the seated load needs to go up proportions to the valve seat area. Second, turbo exhaust manifolds can sometimes create nasty exhaust pulses near EVC which leads to higher required exhaust valve spring seated load. These are just opinions so think it thru yourself.
