Default Why My Last Gasket Was Blown

A little preface. I had Darton MID sleeves put in a 3.0L block.

Finally got my head off to replace the gasket. The number 3 sleeve had slid down the machined pocket by 0.003". Now my question to every one out there is what are my options other than yanking it out and sending to a machine shop, which is the lowest in my desire list. Can I get away machining an O-ring in the head and using a wide fire? or are there less obvious solutions that I am overlooking.

Is there even a wide fire for a 3.0? I've never looked. .003 is a stretch, but might be worth a try if the engine is still in car.

The sleeves were installed by Darton-East, the east coast distributor for Darton. I have decided to go ahead and pull the motor and re-deck. I have a copper gasket I will install that is .050". Prior to decking we will press them all to ensure they are seated.

Yes they are a press fit, but if there was some swarf in the way it may have kept the liner off the seat. We will give them another chance to seat.

Do you think the copper gasket will be more forgiving in the event that the liners shift again in the future?

I'll keep everyone informed on the copper gasket. One of my advantages vs. a normal 944 block is that my liners do not allow as much cylinder movement.
