Default fast 924s : 2.5L turbo 16v project

Hi,

For presentation, i used to drive on track my 924S with a 951 engine swap...

I made this car one year ago by mixing the 924s block with 951 pistons forged rods and head.

Specs :
924s block
924s camshaft 09R
951 pistons and forged rods
k26#6 turbo
Guru chip

Full 968 brake system
968 anti roll bar
Spax shocks with 350 lb/in springs
28 mm rear torsion bars
924s gearbow with M220

The engine just before bolding it in the car :

The car :

A friend is welding :

951 Radiator is bigger than NA one :

Oil system :

Intercooler :

Now it's running with a guru chip at 19 psi @ 4000 rpm and +/- 10 psi @6500 rpm ... with the little k26#6...

First step will be a GT3071R 0.63 A/R maybe this summer...

And in parallel i with build another engine : a 2.5L 16V turbo ! That is wy i'm here, to discuss about this !

I've still a 944S head without valves, intake and exhaust manifold and a GT3076R with 0.82A/R ...

The 951 piston I've are 25 cc ! Rods are ARAST too.
The 944s head is 41 cc

With 7.8cc for head gasket, the mix will give something like : 9.3:1 CR

"7.38" works with 951 pistons 25 cc, 56 cc for head i fund 7.8:1 CR

I've done some measure and its seems easy to dig a flat bowl of +/- 5 cc in the top of piston in order to have an 8,5:1 CR .... !

Have you some info about this ?

What about stock exhaust valves with turbo application ?

reduce the psi to 15, you really are not making any more power running 19 psi. It's not even recommended to run more then 18 psi with pump fuel.

love the build though

Indeed I use a thermal protection to avoid problems, in second hand I plan to relocate the fuel lines... !

Ok for 15 psi

Just as a FYI (for your information) i did try 18 psi on my old k26/6 which would get full boost (15psi) at 2600 rpm, I didn't see any gain were i wanted to. top end was the same, would still hold 12-13 psi. Just a lot more low end torque which would be good for leaving people in the dust in low rpm. but it's a lot of heat from the turbo and can cause issues.

Love the project. IMO going to a 16v isn't really needed. Add a little stroke and do a bit of port work and you will have an easy 450 hp. More than enough for that little car.

I'd love to build a 924s sleeper.

@Paulyy : ok for heat ...

@fast924s : Arfff.... Indeed ... I will try to change the title ... there is no link...

@blown 944 : 16v is as for fun as for $... i've found a 944s head + manifold for the half of the cost of a ported head... S2 crank in good condition is hard to find and force to use new rods and pistons...

For this projet I'll try to re use stock pistons rods and crank (maybe it's a mistake... ? )
The only extra will be to machined pistons head to dig 5cc more in addition of valves reliefs. Like Raceboy did :
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...ad-photos.html
And welding for intake, exhaust manifold, pipes...

@86 951 Driver : Yes I do'nt know why, but I'm found of 924's design... I love 944 too, but I prefer the 924... maybe if I will have no choice to enlarge it, it will be with a SCCA kit ...

I'm im pressed. You've put a lot of effort into this, a lot of research too!

because it's a 924.. means it's lighter so it must be quite quick

Yes... doing research is a way to go ahead when I do'nt work on the car... and as I'm 10 hours a day in an office or home ... I 've time to search and collect information

For example I've done this paper: http://www.924cup.fr/doc/Bible-freins-PMA.pdf (may one day I will translate if to english)
when I was wondering what use to improve brakes...
