GOAL: I need feedback with the road race Bilstein Firehawk 400/200 rear telescopic setup and what torsion bars to use with them. Also, any advice on alignment/camber specs would be appreciated.
To start with this will be a street car that will see occasional track duty and fun spirited driving runs.
Let me first explain details about the car, as that is the most important aspect to get a perspective on what advice I need.
First on the car’s power, it makes over 300hp to the rear wheels, and it’s a 1987 944-T.
Second, all of the bushings have been replaced with poly. Most everything on this car was either gone over or replaced (with exception to the struts and shocks) 10k miles ago when the car was rebuilt or refurbished over the period of 7 years by a previous meticulous owner.
The suspension plans are as such:
For the front I plan on either running the matching Firehawk fronts (380/150) w/400# hypercoils, OR having the stock 474’s re-valved to use them and convert them with the Paragon kit. I haven’t decided on which yet, but you get the idea for what I want in the front.
Using 968 M030 bars front and rear.
Tires are currently F 225/40/18 Conti Sport Contacts, and R 295/30/18. (I will most probably replace these with semi’s in the future though).
I plan on using pillowball adjustable camber plates in the front as well.
Given this information, and that I am trying to create an understeer situation in the front but still stiff and planted all around(I am an in-experienced driver). What size rear torsion bar would you recommend to run with this setup? Any recommended alignment specs for this setup?
Also, just for the record, this is NOT the Bilstein Escort Cup setup. I have read many threads on here where people have confused information on this, and that is the reason I am asking for this advice.
The car currently has the said original mileage M474 fronts and someone put Koni Reds in the rear, obviously I am in need of upgrading this.
Just for purposes, this part is K4-BE3-59636TO, formally AK-35432.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
