Truth be told all the new Porsches are extremely fast and capable. Especially with all the electronic trickery. Most of our cars are lucky to have just ABS, many don't even have that. With old fashioned VW rear suspension we are behind the 8-ball to start with.

Yeah, but with our older cars, we are driving them, not the computer. I bought older 911s not because I could not afford newer - I just don't like all those bells and whistles. I can't say I would kick a new car out of the garage, but my 993s would still rule the roost.

Anyway, I know what 911 type of whom you speak. I have been looked down upon by them, too. Most folks are cool, but that occasional bad apple sure makes the pie taste crappy. I will never be "that guy". Unless you start saying Aztecs are cool. Then I might have to wake you from your nightmare.
Oh **** Bonni, so sorry, lol! I'm so used to being here (951 boards), "by my self" so to speak good to see you again! Should have known it was a fellow WOR!

I'd never turn down a Cayman R, but that horsepower isn't all that difficult to overcome in a 944 Turbo

I think Bonster really does need to get a 944. :-)

I do a lot of instructing, and always start with a "five minute interview" to get a feeling for the student's prior experience - if any.
More times than I can count, I am told of heroic past track experience (usually on dirt bikes, and sometimes "other" cars). This is often revealed as so much BS when I get to the first corner entry while giving a track orientation ride in my (prepared) car.
The first time I use the brakes, the passenger's head does an instant "lap dive".
You see it in your peripheral vision, and know for sure that this is their first ride in a car with GRIP.

No worries, girl. The compliment was still huge.

I can see this happening ... and what a thrill it would be!

You are evil. Lol. Don't doubt for a moment that I have not been tempted. Not even one boosted second. Hmm... uphill climb ... yummy!

Kind of a nice change.
It's usually the females that want the bells and whistles.

Yes ... I reckon I am not your "typical" female, lol. I really love a car I can feel in my bones.

I was on track with a Cayman R this fall, the driver is a good guy and a good driver and I made it a point to try and catch him and pass him if possible. My reasoning being that I really like the Cayman R and once I passed him I could leave the cost of a new Cayman R in my bank account and keep screwing around with my car. Anyway I was able to catch and pass him which I considered an accomplishment given the passage of time between 1987 and 2011. My wife loves 911s and always says about the 944 "Why do you like that car so much?" That is why. I love 911s too, I just can't afford to leave one in a ball at the track just yet.

And also, I've never seen a 944 back into a wall at a racetrack - I know it's happened, I just haven't seen it.

Gold ... I saw not one, but TWO GT-3s slap a quarter panel last weekend. Ouch! Some fellow in our download meeting was all about feeling sorry for one of those GT guys. I said, "If you can't afford to push it off a cliff, don't bring it to the track." Crickets. It is true. Run within your means, and have a blast.

I love GT3s and would love to own / drive one. There is a guy in our club who took my dad for a ride along in his GT3, fabulous car - he crunched one a couple years ago but fortunately had trackday insurance. I don't insure the 944T although I probably should, I use the lack of insurance as an extra incentive to keep it tidy - still, when someone dumps antifreeze there isn't much you can do. My last weekend at the track we lost a GT3 and a cup (no 944s were harmed).
