Is it possible to show pics of before and after to highlight what actually happens with an offset grind?

what kind of cost are you looking at for offset-grinding the crank? big shop near me won't touch it.

$275 on my last build but will probably be a bit more to turn the mains and balance. I will post up the final number.

The guy I use (Tommy Goza) made his name offset grinding VW cranks 30 years ago.

Was wondering how you address the rods being narrower. Is this something that's addressed with welding and off grinding of the crankshaft? Or is it not enough of a difference to worry about. By the way really liked reading about your build.

BE width is like .015" narrower IIRC. Non-issue. I talked to several builders about it and all said it is not a problem.

So, what would the projected cost for someone to build a 3.15L out of a 2.5?

I would say about $3600 less a new turbo. This assumes you already have M Tune and other basic 2.5L mods.

Search is your friend, both Sid and Shawn's builds are very well documented.

i have my block at the machine shop now. Ive been saving to buy the crank from broadfoot racing. they have a 3.0 thats cross-drill, knife-edged, lighten, balance, nitride, and micro polished for $1,325. do you think thats worth the money?

Seems reasonably priced for being a 3L crank and all that has been done. I personally would not pay in advance. Maybe have a lister pick it up and ship to you.
