There is some science involved with drilling out the journals. I found some good reading material here http://www.wannaberacing.com/wrewhat.html

Finally got my new crank! Everything looks good. 92 mm stroke, max runout 0.0005", and nitride treatment. We optimized the fillet radius. Used Mile High Crankshaft in Denver. Total cost for machining and nitride was $375. Only downside was that it took 10 weeks!
Original crank fillet radius was far from ideal.

Looking good. Curious if you cross-drilled it (or perp or whatever)? I had a 3 liter crank tested and polished recently and opted not to drill it (in part because our local crank guru moved away, but also because I'm not convinced it helps on a street car). Curious what others are doing these days.

Curious to see how it works out. I still am waiting to assemble my neighbours stroker engine with the Mile High 2.5 crankshaft. Looks like the same work I had done.

I'll take reassurance wherever I can find it, but with dry sump and a 501 mile life expectancy, not sure how far that goes. Jon Milledge once said to me that dry sump was the only real solution on the track for the 944. I'm with you though, for a street car, if it was good enough for Porsche, it's good enough for me (until proven otherwise).

Shawn,
could you do me a favor and measure the vertical height from the machined block surface (front corner by the head, "water jacket") to the top of your intake manifold?
working on a similar design and hood clearance is a major concern...and hood is off the car.

The speed with which you did this highlights my own procrastinations and therefore irritates me. Nice work and looking good though! Fingers crossed for a strong, healthy, long-lasting motor!

Hey Shawn, Quick Q since we had talked about it - did you just measure the width of the rod bearing you were using and provide that info to Mile High or did you provide both the rod bearing measurement and a preferred journal width clearance before the radius on each side of the bearing? I know you said you gave him some #s and he didnt nail it, just wanted to write that down before I send it off. Huge thanks again!
