They have a different cnc program for the 243 head vs say a 241 / 853, obviously because the ports are a different shape to begin with.

That is the cost for the porting. If you want the heads rebuilt, then that would obviously be additional.

What are the quoted gains on a set of 241 heads?

There are not "quoted gains" but you can expect about 25-35RWHP depending on what other mods you have.... and that's a great deal.

I'm not sure what cam you have, but if you tell them, they can tell you if you can mill the heads or not.

It's too bad you don't live around here because they have the fixture to cut valve reliefs in the pistons without removing the pistons with perfect precision and only takes them about 1-2 hours once the heads are off the car...

You might as well just get these:
http://texas-speed.com/p-1172-prc-st...ted-heads.aspx

The 5.3 heads are about equivalent to the LS6 heads to begin with, and these are brand-spankin' new GM heads with a CNC port and flow numbers to boot.

Not bad, but the question is... how much power are people making with these heads.

I make 465RWHP and 400RWTQ on 91 pump gas on my LS6. Big cam, 102mm intake, 92mm TB, RH headers, dual 2.5 exhaust, larger injectors.

Peak HP at 6800rpms, Peak TQ at 4600rpms. Over 350RWTQ from 2800rpms to 6800rpms.

1988 951 with a 2001 LS1. I've enjoyed the hell out of it but it might be for sale soon.

I heard about them on the Camaro boards, they've got a good reputation. Texas Speed also sells CNC ported LS6 heads, but the LS6 flow numbers are almost identical and naturally they cost a few hundred bucks more.

Some day when i need a rebuild i'll pick a set up, but for now i'm happy with my power level.

Hey... I'm not saying that there aren't better heads out there. Honestly.... I really don't stay up with it. I was going to buy a set of AFR heads and be done with it, but got talked out of it based on their claims and the price. I figured I'd let them cnc the heads and see what happens. If they didn't perform, I'd just buy what I was going to buy anyway. Turns out.... they perform. That's why they are still on the engine. And all on pump 91 gas (which saves me about $2500/year vs race fuel).

So... zero problems, good power, wide power band, cheap gas.

Oh yeah, if you've already got a good set of heads then $600 is a great price for CNC porting. If you've got a lesser set of heads or yours are in need of a good rebuild, then the 5.3 heads are a pretty good deal. Anyways, didn't mean to veer this thread off.

This is not my car but I work on it frequently at work. Figured you can add another to the count - not sure if he's on Rennlist though.

Very cool. Like the wiring tuck. I'm interested in seeing closeups of that brake/clutch master setup if you ever get a chance!
