He's looking to upgrade and wants to stay with a DBB turbo, but doesn't want to get fooled by the hp hype and be stuck with a dog. - At least, that's how I would go about it too.

I'm using a LR 65 thrust bearing that was IMO pos till I had Charlie at Evergreen work it over. Leaked oil at the seals from day 1. Had it rebuilt twice before
Charlie took care of it. He lightened both wheels and put a step gap seal in it now it's ****. In my 3.0L it made 365rwhp and IIRC 378ft lbs. @17psi and the car was missing above 6k. This is on a basically stock 2.7 head, no porting etc.

Shawn- I have the LR Super 65 P Trim with #8 hotside but it's not a DBB turbo because I went with just an oil cooled turbo. Feel free to drive my car when ever you'd like.

You are more than capable to build a motor, so you are similar qualifed to do some minor fabwork and get a modern turbo with a modern hotside, a GT35R comes to mind, similar in size to the LR65

Agreed. I have been looking hard at a GT3582R.

You went with Blown944's engine...why not go for his turbo too?

Hard to beat the Holset super 40

I would certainly be cautious regarding using a small hot side. It may defeat the whole purpose. For a 3.1 I definitely wouldn't use anything smaller than a stg 5 turbine wheel. A 3582 would be my first choice for a dbb. I also looked into a To4z awhile ago. Iirc it was a 66mm inducer with a p trim turbine wheel.

Before making a final decision be sure to understand turbine flow limits. Obviously I am using something on the larger side, but, believe it or not I may go larger yet for my end goal.

I personally think my current turbo would be optimal for a 3.1 with a good flowing head. I don't think I've hit the limit on it yet and with a larger engine it would spool up even sooner.

I could see 400#ft at 3500 rpms happening. Maybe even sooner at your elevation.

Not to sway you (bc honestly I like my unique setup) but I'd look at something very close to it.P

Hey Refresh951...
When I find my dyno sheet for my 63P Trim, i'll send you a copy.
The tune was done 2 years ago. If memory serves me correctly - 443 rwhp on 91 octane - don't remember torque, sorry.
Also running Snow Meth... and LR MAF... and a few other add ons...

why don't you go GT series?
the 3582r would be a little on the large side IMO
