True while generally used on drag engines, I have had good luck doing half fills on street engines for decades now.

My current engine has over 10k street and drag miles now.

The filler I am speaking of is far superior to hard block and my current Moroso fillers.

I used hardblock on my early stang motors on the street with a/c just had to run a good oil cooler. I eventually went to a good block. The stuff is ok on the street depends how far you fill er up. The hardblock is formulated more for iron though

What is the recommended block filler for an aluminium block? Is hardblok a good solution?

Looks like Rage2 used Moroso Engine Block Filler.

With my engine out and my block sitting there, I've been wondering if I should do this in preparation for running higher boost later on down the track. I have found some Moroso MO35571 online for a good price.

I have a query though, do you need to machine the bores after filling? I am worried that the filler might expand and deform the bores slightly.

Have you considered building a girdle for the tops of the cylinders to keep them from moving?

No, this is more of a 'budget' build, so a deck plate is out of the question. The block filler seems cost effective and worthwhile though, just as long as the block really doesn't need any machining afterwards, which I am not sure about.

I filled a block after it was sleeved and all was fine even though it would be better to fill before.

A filled or half filled block needs a little more PTW clearance, so I wouldn't fill a block after the clearances have been set.

The ingeniero in me thinks that cooling problems will limit how much you can fill the block.

You "should" have the block finish-bored/honed after the filler goes in, in case it may have distorted the cylinders.

As far as a deck plate/girdle thing...I know open-deck Subaru guys have experimented with drilling in between the cylinder barrel and the block casting and fitting a pin to basically fix the barrel to the block.
