+1 on the Brakekleen. I hope the 500 Plus cans I used in the past 10 years has not done too much damage

Brake cleaner worked wonders for me to get the nasty stuff off. I was told that some one does Co2 blasting ? I understand that it brings aluminum to like new shine but I have no idea where it is done.

In the bay, brake cleaner, castrol super clean - brush. You can use a pressurized sprayer to keep the rinse water contained

out, pressure and aluminum brightener

complete, almost

Thats one of the biggest things I want to do when my engine is out. Just go nuts with a pressure washer and get everything clean again.

good quality gunk cleaner + steam cleaner + glass blasting = brand new look. all inlets have to be properly sealed. I made a steel blanks for all openings (oil, water, air, exhaust) and just blast it with glass after brief cleaning.

Petrol a great cleaner, just be sure your in a ventilated area and your wearing gloves. Oh and no ignition sources.
I found this to be the most effective! Hands down ...
I put it in a pump spray bottle, and went at it. I also used GUNK and warm to hot water, in a pump spray bottle ( I have a pressure washer, but it only does cold water ...)

Both of these work great but with the car in the garage, I was limited to how much pressure washing I could do, and like I mentioned, cold water doesn't work nearly as good as one the delivers hot water !

The downside is after a couple years, my block looked pretty much the same as it did (minus the grease/oil buildup).
I used the Eagle One as well, but you should only use that on the porous areas, as it will make the block more porous and it will suck up stains and grease ( I used that mostly on the suspension pieces ) and then sealed them with Zoop Seal or a clear engine paint to prevent the oil or grease from staining it again. On the block, I would only use Gas and or Gunk ... unless you are planning on sealing ...
Good luck

i cleaned the whole engine - bottom and head were bolted together. All pipes, vacuum instalation, exhaust, intake etc. removed and all holes blanked off with metal plates and rubber. Engine on a stand.
