Thinking about a large oil cooler. good or bad idea?

How big are the lines on the original cooler? That should be a pretty good gauge. I have a pretty big oil cooler (holds close to 1QT by itself) plumbed with about 6 feet of -10 line and my oil pressure is perfect (3.5bar idle/5 bar >2000RPM).
With the type of oil pump on the 944 and a thermostat-controlled oil cooler, get as big a cooler as you want to spend and can reasonably fit on the car where it won't interfere with any other operations.

Factory hard steel piping on the turbo oil cooler is about 0.71" OD.
-10 AN Fittings are approx 0.62" OD. -10 Hose ID is 0.56".
-12 AN Fittings are approx 0.75" OD. -12 Hose ID is 0.69".
I have a little over 10 feet of line and 6 AN fittings, so head/line loss can be significant.

I used a second stock cooler. Total cost after lines was less than $140.
Works great so far. Can't get temps above 190F on the street in traffic. About 30 deg drop.

the 968 cooler looks good but to relocate the oil filter seems to much.
I've got a kinked line and it'll cost almost 200 to replace and the other one needs to be re done, i was just thinking if i get a new cooler all together and go braided lines and have a larger cooler then stock for roughly the same amount for new lines would be ideal.
i was thinking this too, seems like a good idea. But, what if your radiator gets a leak, then you'll need to replace that and the oil cooler at the same time, or remove both to get it fixed. seems to out of the way.

Patrick - I actually found Rick Cannell's site before I knew about RL. I talked to Rick and bought some stuff from his graphics company. I definitely modeled the look of my car after his, especially when I found out he had sold the car.

Highly doubt you would ever have any issues. Easy to patch it up with a good aluminium welder.
Can't see that being an issue unless anyone on here can think of a reason why not well other than someone not wanting to do the work.

Three Wheelin'
Just took another look at Josh's old cooler in the garage. The end tank is definitely split into an in-and-out configuration. I know he said he had the end tank modified to make the hose connections easier, maybe the tank was split then and that's why it worked better than others' experienced?
